What is this plant I’ve had for years?

So about 3 years ago a friend gave me a cutting of her plants when we moved out. She doesn’t know what it is. I’ve had this cutting and he was only ever had 2 leaves. If he grows a third it dies shortly after. Now he’s fully dying and I’m distressed!!!! I want to know what he is so I can care for him better! If anyone has tips please help 😭😭

My care:
– keeping him in partial sunlight.
– watering when the soil is dry when i stick my finger in it.
– the pot does have drainage at the bottom.
– I repotted him once the whole time I had him maybe two years ago

Please he is the only plant of mine that is struggling like this.
