Now that their wedding is over, they are going to focus on house upgrades. They have plans for the inside, but haven't considered the outside much. I do basic landscaping as a side gig and am hoping for some ideas to spruce up the outside a bit with 1-2 day's work.
I think the most obvious is the area on the inside of the walkway. It's a pretty long area. Something low maintenance for them, as they're a younger couple and there's a near-zero chance they'll do much maintaining.
We have talked about me doing some work for them in the past, but I'd like to surprise them for when they come home on Friday.
EDIT: We are in North Texas

Use an edger. It will instantly look 10x better
Butterfly garden
Native plant shrubs whose max adult height will not cover windows. They are zero maintenance once established.
If you give us a state we can probably make suggestions.
Not sure your location, but why not a tree in the island?
Buy them a garage can trolley and but the trash bins on the side or backyard for starters. As for the island a dwarf evergreen with none invasive roots on THEIR SIDE of the PROPERTY LINE with hostas and selected perennials under it,. Mulch,
