Hi all – this is kind of a sad moment for me. I live in Asheville area and have been focused on just getting food, water and comms for the last several days. The city is likely to be without water for weeks – quite possibly months. This has posed enormous challenges for daily living, but now that I’ve checked on friends and family and we have power and some signal again, the 2nd and 3rd order implications of our situation keeps coming in waves and it only recently dawned on me that I will simply be unable to water and care for my trees. I have buckets under my downspouts to gather rainwater, but we also need that for toilet flushing and other graywater uses. Even if I did have abundant water, it’s just going to be impractical to hydrate hundreds of starts and prebonsai with a watering can spread out across my property, especially when we have to travel out of town to even get a shower. Luckily this is mostly young trees and cuttings, I think I can take care of my ~20 or so more developed bonsai, but I’d hate for even the little guys to all go to waste. The trees are not insurable according to the person I chatted with today.

So I’d like to see if anyone here is interested in getting some stuff (hopefully in bulk). Or if you have ideas on how I can manage this, I’m all ears. I have mainly deciduous trees, but also a bunch of satsuki azaleas and some yews, JBPs, cryptomeria, and sekka/chirimen hinoki cypress. They are mostly cuttings and <3 yr old material in 3.5″ to 6″ pots. I’m attaching pics of some of them scattered about.

I am able to ship thru my normal operations as a small hobby business, but probably not for a while because transportation is unreliable and some carriers have suspended or tightened services. I would say folks are welcome to come up, but we are discouraging visitors right now as it puts strain on roadways and resources. I know this is a very small thing in the face of the utter devastation we’re seeing, but it’s something that’s in my orbit right now and I am looking for help or an outlet or even just a plan to start moving towards. Thanks for any help you can offer!

I’m in Durham and would take or purchase some from you. Could probably take 5-10, but not sure about logistics of getting them.

Edit: really sorry to hear all that’s happened up there. I went to school in Asheville and Boone and it’s just devastating. Hang in there!

I’m in SW Virginia, so not far from you. I could potentially help with some if you can’t find any other solutions

Do you have a listing of what you’ve got to get rid of? Feel free to dm me if so.

In Atlanta and also interested, but couldn’t drive to you. Really sorry for everything you are going through after the hurricane.

I’d agree with the above comment about planting in the ground. That would likely buy you some more time with your trees.
