Hoya Serpens trellis or not

I have this Hoya Serpens which grows on a trellis, it looks alright i guess but I am considering letting it hang in a basket instead. It's pushing out alot of new growth from below and I think letting it climb will make it too shadowy for the stems which are already climbing. Also it's very tedious to "force" the stems upwards when it looks like it wants to hang. So, should I let it?
