I have had this Jade cutting in water for a few months now. are the roots supposed to be this dark or are they rotting? They are firm and not squishy to touch
If they are firm, they are fine. A lot of the time when you have a cutting in water for a while in a clear container, you end up with a thin layer of harmless brownish algae all over the roots. This is what your pics look like to me.
