Thank you for posting to r/plantclinic!

It looks like you may be asking about a cactus or succulent. In addition to any advice you receive here, please consider visiting r/cactus r/succulents for more specialized care advice.

A common problem with cacti and succulents is etiolation. This is when a succulent stretches or becomes leggy. Reply with “!etiolation” for advice.

  2. Nothing good!

Scale. You’ll need to try whacking them first with 70% isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab, or my preference… a soft artist paintbrush…the type with a pointed tip. Cheap from Dollar Tree works.

The alcohol should dissolve the outer armor.

You’ll need to scrutinize every little dot you even think might be scale and drop a little alcohol on it.

After you finish, give the plant a rinse off with tepid water.

You’ll need to scrutinize every few days for about three weeks to catch the full life cycle.

Also, look to see if there are ants in the vacinity. If there are, scale may be present on other plants. Scale produce honey dew as a byproduct which ants like. If the scale are threatened by natural predators, to protect them, the ants will move the scale to other plants.
