Turf Install Regrets. Should I be upset?

I paid a hefty sum for turf install in my back yard, and am experiencing buyer’s remorse. Am I overreacting? Should I be upset about this?

In my opinion….the turf should butt up against the edges, the seams are too visible, I can see some black tarp protruding, turf should have been installed under the rain barrel, I can feel large rocks beneath my feet, and while not visible in these photos the ground is not level

  1. Is that a tree growing thru turf? I’m going to be sick to my stomach. 😞

Yes looks it could have been beter. Now what did the landscape rep told you when you shared this with them?

Buddy, I have never installed turf nor am I in any type of landscaping industry but I would be upset if I was you.

Was your installer blind? Looks like you got had. Sod right up to a tree like that, over rocks, not covering the edges…that’s a junk job you got done..

Shit turf job. For as expensive as they stuff is it should look prestige. Seams will show a little bit as areas experience traffic, but that’s why you have to agitate the area to hide them again.

Did you pay them? If you did then your recourse is limited.

The way I look at it is that you could have done a similar quality of work. That’s not the point of hiring a professional.

I’m almost thinking like someone said in this thread that they used leftovers from previous jobs.

They should be out there replacing sections that are subpar.

That’s a shit job. Since you didn’t pay them in full, tell them to re-do it. Not just cut small missing strips and put those in, they need to re-do sections. Don’t pay the rest until it’s completed to your satisfaction.

As a landscaper all I can say is holy shit that’s bad! Time to start the claims process and get your money back. This is not professionally installed nor installed correctly. Reviews can be faked and pictures for that matter. I’m sorry you had this experience.

Its not great. The sod around the tree is what worries me the most You really want to cut that back a few feet to let that tree breathe.

I just had my whole yard done and there were some challenges. I didn’t have anything like this, i.e., missing or badly aligned sections, but they were very reasonable when I called and talked it over. Don’t get angry or panic until you talk to them. The owner /foreman may not even be aware of the concerns.

My suggestion is to call up and ask for the business owner or manager and explain you have a couple concerns and ask if they can come fix. Don’t point any fingers or blame (unless they say it’s your fault, which means they want to charge you). Most of the time you’ll find them pretty reasonable especially if they think you’re otherwise happy as they don’t want to lose a positive review. Good luck!

The thing about astroturf is that even with a good install, it will look like garbage in a couple of years

  13. There’s no excuse for the fitment issues and jagged cuts everywhere. We all know the nightmare of shitty contractors, especially on expensive jobs. Sorry for your headache, but its absolutely reasonable to address those problems now.

It looks like they cut and laid the turf *around* the rain barrel in photo number four, but that can’t be the case because NO ONE IS THAT STUPID.

Withhold remaining balance. This is a hack job, likely with remnants.
