What animal is causing this?

I live in Northern Virginia and we keep getting our yard dug up by something. We just aerated and reseeded. This has been going on for several months now but is more obvious and more frequent the past month. The yard looks dug up but not really holes like something is burrowing into it. It looks like something was rooting for food and leaving a mess. We have deer in the area and squirrels but I’m not sure what other rodents are around. Any ideas and how would I stop the problem?

  1. Do you have armadillos?

That kinda looks like how they root for grubs

  2. We have wild boars living in our land and they also dig the ground.

I would be surprised if it was a boar since my yard is fenced in and there’s no other damage. Armadillo is an interesting thought. I haven’t seen an armadillo around here but the google machine says they could be around here 🤔

Skunks, raccoons, Sandhills cranes do that digging for grubs on my land. I am not familiar with Virginia though

  5. Nobody can tell what critter is doing this because so many eat grubs. Go to Home Depot or lowes and get yourself a small spreader, or borrow one from a friend or neighbor, and buy a product called Grubx. Read the instructions and apply as soon as possible. You might have to retreat your lawn in the spring but that product does a great job getting rid of the grubs in your lawn. No grubs = no tearing up lawn looking for them
