Begonias

Densifying the rhizome: Mission impossible?

Hi! So my begonia erythrophylla/beefsteak is healthy and, from what I can tell, quite happy. I, on the other hand, am not a 100% satisfied with its look! I know it's a normal process but still, I'd like it to be more dense on the rhizome parts.

I already cut (and repotted :B) the rhizomes in Spring, hoping it would lead to new leaves, but with only little results.

Do you have tips on how to enhance leaf growth on the begonia rhizomes?

Thanks!

  1. Hi,
I have grown beefsteak begonias for sometime. After a certain time of successful growth they have that thick remaining trunk where leave stems once were attached. Not pretty but seems to be part of their growth pattern. But I set mine outside during the summer, they seem to enjoy the time. During cooler months I have mine under grow lights and they respond well to that. You may want to take a cutting and start a new plant. That will be rid of the less pretty tuber.
