It was a gift. Is it possible to revive this fig? Zone 13.

So the 2nd picture is the plant before it was given to me last Friday. Almost a week ago.

This is really stressing me out. My first time using LECA and accidentally getting a diva plant. I DID NOT know this as they always seem robust to me.

It was so root bound, and I repotted it in a one-size-up pot the same day without disturbing the roots. I just plopped it into the new pot and added some fresh soil. I just let it outside in semi-shade. It was raining very heavily too. We have monsoon season right now, so it’s alternating between very heavy rains and scorching hot days.

When I learned enough, on Sunday, two days after getting the plant, I decided we don’t have much indoor light so I decided to soak it in jar of chlorinated water, liquid germall (broad-spectrum antimicrobial), root hormoes, and a cap of liquid fertilizer. Before I put it into this jar of solution/water, I also rinsed the root pretty carefully, not breaking anything but I did break up the root balls. I let this jar sit in indirect sunlight.

I was told that by doing this, I could grow “water roots”, as an intermediary phase before transferring to LECA. The point of growing it in LECA is that I don’t want to risk overwatering it. LECA is good to mitigate root rot and Monsoon season has just begun and will last till March.

I also believed the edema would be temporary and the plant would survive.

On Monday, still in the jar of water, I noticed that the leaves were curling at the tip.

On Tuesday, I started noticing brown spots (edema).

On Wednesday, I traveled interstate and noticed that the bottom leaves were falling off when I got home.

Today, I decided to no longer wait and transferred it into LECA that I had been soaking for one or two days. The pot is not full, the water only reaches half of the pot.

Do you think this plant has a chance or is it a goner? What can I do now? It seems in bad health. The roots are healthy and plenty (really, so many roots). But the leaves feel fragile in my hand, like they’d scatter as soon as I touch them.
