Plant Propagation

How to stop it from growing taller

Newbie here.

First how to stop it from growing taller, ideally starting to grow the sides?
Secondly how to take advantage of that to propagate it?

Prune it, and it might branch, but I will warn you this is a tree, and it’s going to fight you every step of the way. Just stick the cut-up sections into water or soil and wait, add rooting hormones if you have it/prefer it.

It’s the same with most of the trees, you cut the apical growth (the top) to help the auxiliary buds to grow. That’s make it more bushy.

But i personally never have success propagating Ficus Elástica. And the time I cut my own Ficus It’s only makes a new branch in the cut, but that was probably becuse my Ficus isn’t the more healthy one and shouldn’t have to did it in winter.

Just cut it between one of the nodes and then remove the bottom couple of leaves from the cutting and put it in water until it roots. The branching out may or may not happen, but rooting the cuttings is pretty easy.
