Codominant oak

New to this but reading that the two main branches are a problem and it should be just one. Is there anything I can do or is it too late to trim one of them? Thanks

  1. Looks completely healthy and normal. Our large oak in our backyard has 6 main branches with a well that collects water in the middle, and it’s probably 300 years old or more.

You can…. But it’s going to look really weird…

    I’d leave it alone 💚

Yup, those will eventually split out. Do it sooner than later, at the proper time according to your State Forest Service regarding Oak Wilt timing.

You could hire a legit tree care company to do some light structural pruning to subordinate one side but make sure there’s a certified arborist on the crew that assess the job and on site while the work is performed. You shouldn’t attempt this type of pruning, it takes knowledge, skill, and experience to do. Plus it’s an oak, could be oak wilt in your area.
