The planter originally had 3 cacti but the other two died within a year or so. The surviving one had a moon cactus graft that never took. This guy was stuck in the corner of my parents kitchen for the last 22 years before finally getting moved under a high quality grow light about 6 months ago.
Strangely enough it went from having 4 ribs/spots where needles grow when there was some light to 5 ribs when the light was minimal for a couple decades to finally growing 3 ribs/needle growth points when getting a ton of light.
I've been thinking about cutting the plump top section off in a few months so I can start it over with a solid base but part of me wants to see how far it'll go on its own.
Any idea what type of cactus this might be? Also the soil is the same as it was 22 years ago, what would be a good type to use for a transplant/repot to help ensure future growth?
