Lawn Care

1 month to the day from sow to first mow, thrilled!

(Zone 6) First season lawn-owners, did a terrible job this summer and had some pretty dead lawn to show for it. Did lots of reading on this sub and did the following to get here:

2 months ago I treated for weeds using WeedStop ready to spray (the one that hooks to the hose) worked fantastic, definitely will be going back to this product.

Progressively mowed shorter in the weeks leading up to the 6 weeks pre-frost-date (Sept 14 was my sow date). Then scalped, dethatched, sowed GCI TTTF, and used Scott's weed and feed for seeding. Watered religiously 5-8 minutes 4 times a day for until a week post first germination. Then started weening the intervals down to now 1" per week ahead over 2 days a week.

Just cut it for the first time as the right reached a consistent 2-3 inches, cut it to 2" and I'm absolutely thrilled with how it's looking. Thanks for all the great info in this community, the Internet is magical.

WARNING: The window for SAFE seeding in all but the most southern cool season zones (SW U.S.) has now closed. The next recommended window is dormant seeding, when soil temps are too low for grass seed to germinate (under 50F/10C but before the ground is frozen).

Regardless, if you are you looking for information about how to overseed a cool season lawn? You can find a comprehensive guide [in this post here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/lawncare/s/pUsKCxyvwQ)
