Pruning advice

Ive had this cercis canadensis for about a year and a half now after collecting it for free. The right hand side was dead and snapped off during the process of collection meaning it's growing entirely on one side. It seems it was pruned when young to grow into a specific shape given the shape of the trunk and evidence of pruning, but now I'm wondering how I should prune it to stop it getting too heavy on one side, or if I should try and train it more vertically somehow.

Personally I would leave that be, and only cut back in the future for shaping.

I have this same tree and they are very brittle – often damaged in strong winds. Personally I wouldn’t cut anything off this one until it’s grown a bit bigger and then proceed gently

It’s beautiful. I personally love that shape – if you’re worried about it over balancing I’d be inclined to repot it/ reposition it in the pot to give it a bit of ballast (so the main stem isn’t right at the side that it’s overhanging)

You don’t have much of a tree to prune.

Leave it until it actually puts on more growth.
