Does it rot?

Hello everyone!

I bought this cutting a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, after one or two weeks it started to turn brown at the bottom. As the area was/is soft, I cut another piece off the trunk with a disinfected sharp knife, let the area dry and put it in water. I change the water every few days, but it seems to be going bad again.

I think I might have one more try at cutting it off, then it will be tight. Should I do it again, and if so, what can I do better? Or maybe no water at all, but sphagnum moss? Theoretically I can also cut off a leaf with more Trunk to get more distance from the rotten part, but I don't know if a small mini aerial root can even manage that.

Thanks in advance for your help!

you can def cut off more, but if this is the second time rotting, i would definitely try perlite or sphagnum moss because it’s a bit concerning tht it rotted multiple times.
It does seem like the aerial roots are budding new roots so that’s really good and I would avoid bothering those at any cost (personally)

Is the area squishy/soft/has a smell? I’ve seen SOME people get away with leaving areas like that if it dries out but not often. And you’d want to keep those little roots wet but let that dry out.

not sure if maybe you can diy something like these, the prop balls is what i looked up to find them, they basically just wrap around the root and leave the rest of the stuff dry, like maybe use a baggy or something to keep only the aerial roots moist? basically air layering.

  2. cut of all the black part, even scrape out if there is any in the middle, get some super glue and glue the end when it dries,it works for me,also put it in perlite
