$4,800 for a Slag Driveway?

I bought a house and moved the driveway to allow for pastureland. I’ve had 4 different contractors out for an estimate on what it would cost. The quotes range from $2,000 to $4,800! The $2,000 guy has ghosted me.

Is there a cheaper option or more creative solution?

Is $4,000 to 4,800 a reasonable price range for removing the topsoil, smoothing out the terrain, dumping gravel, and leveling it?

Under $5k isn’t driveway money, it’s drag it flat and throw gravel over it with no base being built money. Which is fine as long as you can maintain it yourself annually.

4800 is cheap. I wouldn’t touch that job for under 7k. Go for it!

  3. What are they proposing to do. Slag is a byproduct of smelting I wouldn’t personally recommend it

Rent a skid steer, rip out the grass/soil yourself. Then order a truckload of gravel and have the driver slow dump it down the drive.
