Alocasia

Whyyy am I struggling with these?

I got these two recently after killing my first try with an alocasia. 😩

I repotted them into a chunkier substrate and removed the root cage mesh things around the roots, but now the tips are yellowing 🥺😭 is this from transplant shock? Another group everyone told me it was bc they needed water— but they have just been watered when repotted. Do I need to just wait it out?

They get indirect bright light from grow lights, and are close enough to a humidifier. The soil may look dry, but I assure you, it is not when I stick my finger in it. ☺️

Your mix is way too chunky. Way too much pine bark in there in my opinion.

This just does not look like a potting medium that Alocasias want to grow in. And I have grown a lot of them for a very long time.

It looks dehydrated. Alocasias like to have the soil constantly moist with no dry periods

It’s just looks like it’s under watered or overwatered due to rot. Have you inspected the roots and in pot it? If roots are healthy then move on to the next problem but most likely check the roots.

Is it sitting under a high lamp light ? Curling leaves are a sign of too much light?

Is it dying out too quick? Most Alocasias drop bottom leaves quick if it’s too dry

Are the roots and soil moist or rotted?

They are water and nutrient hogs, when I repot, I use 2 parts coco coir, 1 part small fir bark,1 part perlite, and 1 part worm castings. I also ad in slow release fertilizer Osmocote Plus in the mix. I am going to try a couple in fluval stratum and see how that works. I do not let them dry out and I fertilize at half strength every time I water. Only once a month use plain water,
