Growing loofah is super easy, and it has many uses. Not only is it a good vegetable when it’s young, it’s also capable of washing plates, your body, and plastic dinosaurs.

Scientist Robert M. Pinkerton III explains how to use luffa, and we also see how to harvest loofah, process loofah sponges, wash with luffa and more. What an amazing vegetable!

  1. What an awesome scientist, he seems very knowledgeable! I have always wanted to try growing loofas, I just haven't gotten around to it. I'll try next year

  2. Absolutely Schmashing to hear your invited professor talk about the Loofah Egiptica,😂such a versatile veggie and scrub pad, dunno why people prefer those plastic scouring pads made by Scotch Brite, those will take forever to decompose , meanwhile the trusty Loofah, once it is thoroughly used, will biodegrade back into Mother Earth, that her children may come up in future seasons, taking in nourishment from the earth and the sun.😊

  3. 1. Dr Pinkerton bears a striking similarity with Larry the Cucumber, are they related?
    2. What does luffa taste like? Does it taste like a sponge?
    3. The order from Daisy's store arrived today, how do you store Chinese Yam bulbs? Please advise!

  4. My family grew lufa for about 4 hears when I was young. Late 60's to early 70*s. I don't know why it stopped but it did. Zone 9b. They were prolific. Washed and c!earned with em. Fed to cows are them and fed to.the compost… but as good as they grew, some blight/fungus/pest took em out and that was that.

  5. David first off no mention of olives. second no mention that young Luffa can be eatin like cucumbers. they are delicious. Lets Go!

  6. I'm so glad I took some time to listen to your video. A little while ago I subscribed to you for some reason? But I just never really listen to a video because I thought you were crazy😂 Well now that i've watched your video i've learned that you are insane.

  7. The best tasting loofah is the ROUGH RIGGED TYPE. In the Philippines we call them Patola in English we call them the sponge gourd or the silk squash.
The SMOOTH loofah is the BEST for growing into sponges. They covering comes off cleanly. The Rough Rigged type are very difficult to remove the covering.

  8. I’ve been growing loofah for about three years now very successful. I got plenty of seeds to share and and have for the next couple years. I will grow every year. I think I don’t get a big big harvest, but I get enough for myself and Friends and FAMILY.

  9. You've got to hire that scientist for more videos, he seems like he is well read 😂. We planted some of Daisy's Loofah seeds a few weeks ago and have a coming up. One even has a few baby loofahs on it. Ive heard that people make soap and place the loofah inside of it.

  10. are there oompa loofas in you garden?
definitely need a version of david and the chocolate factory

  11. We're also enjoying a great loofa harvest this year, on the edge between zones 6 and 7. I planted 6 seeds, but only one survived. As it turns out, 1 is all you'll need! Haha
