Great video easy on the back.
Thanks Thanks Thanks I'm an
Old lady ..love the tote chair garden.
Jeez….had high hopes for this video to learn something…but had to listen to you yak yak about every thought in your head…get to the point of how you grow in totes…soooo disappointing…
BIG TIP:
Slugs can EASILY climb up all your terra cotta pots and DESTROY whatever is in there overnight. Of course I totally love the classy terra cottas, but slugs CANβT climb up anything plastic!! Itβs too slippery!!!
Those of you in slug areas know how destructive they are. So, do I love plastic? No. But you will pay mightily for those expensive terra cotta pots and the slugs will thank you big time !! πππΌ
THANK YOU! for this video..this is the best way and easiest I have seen to grow a garden
Can totes good for flowering plants? Thanks
How do you control squash bug larva in your squash plants
Do you use the lids for seeding trays or do you send them to recycling?
I'm interested in using these for my garden, but I worry about how this method would work in a hot, TX summer.
Wow! You have really inspired me to garden more! Thank you!
I love container gardening! I live in an apartment complex and don't really have room to Garden. Most of us don't. I only have the small sidewalk area that goes by my apartment. So I can only use smaller planters that don't impede my neighbors. Garden Planters can be very expensive and very cheaply made. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities! Ty for your wonderful video!!
Genius!! Totes! I have some in my basement! Im so excited, funds are very limited right now so no raised beds for me . And i dont have a tiller so totes it is! Thank you!π
Here are two reasons this isn't a good idea. The plastic that totes are made from are not food grade and will leach chemicals into the soil, especially when heated during summer months. Also, this type of plastic isn't designed to be left in the sun and will become brittle and fall apart if not brought out of the sun after harvesting. Food grade 5 gallon buckets would be a better choice in my opinion.
Iβve rewatched this video so many times! Thanks π
I saw your show last night. Today I ordered 5 totes from Walmart. They were $7, but they did deliver them. They were still cheaper than any other system I have found. I have tons of leaves and food scraps that I have been stockpiling. Tomorrow, I will fill the tubs with compost. The planting soil arrives next week. If I only get great tomatoes, it will be worth the $70 I have spent!
I have a problem with squirrels, how to keep them out?
I have tons of small pine cones all over due to super large trees. Would they be good in the bottom of the totes?
Some nurseryβs will sell the 15 gallons black they last almost for ever ours are used for $3.5 each
Great
Gravity doesn't PULL UP… π
Robbie, Since I recently stumbled upon your wonderful videos, youβve inspired me so much! I already made my first bird bath with items from around my house and a few thrift items! You are such a blessing to watch and learn from. I also just made my first tote! Waiting for my zucchini, spinach and pole beans to sprout π± before adding them to the tote. After watching I now realize, I can grow multiple veggies in one tote if I want. If this works like I believe it will, this is just the beginning to a more self sufficient and fruitful way of life that I now realize is truly possible because of you!! Thank you for sharing all your valuable wisdom with all of us! You are a true blessing to me! Hi ππ» from NC!

Sorry I just won't grow in plastic
Here in NM, the wind is so strong this year that the chairs won't work. However, I have my totes on wood pallets- air circulation and the wind won't affect it. i also pick up the big round 18 gallon tubs with handles- I've grown fruit trees in those. I use square foot gardening methods and have a massive amount of food to harvest.
GREAT video! Thank you. I'm new to your channel and love these gardening tips.
Have you tried to turn any of your totes into wicking containers? Works great for me & I never over water or under water. Iβm growing tomatoes, peppers, fig trees, elderberry, strawberries. Theyβre pretty much closed systems so it saves on water, compost tea, worm castings, fertilizers. Iβm about to start blueberries, blackberries, Monstera deliciosa Swiss Cheese Plant, columnar apples. Weβre going to have a food forest in totes.l use 5 gallon buckets also but mostly totes. Will be moving everything in grow bags to totes
Thank you very much for teaching on totes. Here is Hawaii it's gets very hot and with a small property these totes are the amswer especially with our busy lives now days. This is a " can do" one tote as a time. Love it!
Iβm wanting to plant something this year and want to use containers. How many yellow squash plants would you put in a tote that size?
Same totes as I bought last year! Yes, I think totes are stronger than grow bags and bigger than them as well!
They work great for potatoes =)

Hey Robbie – tonight on the way home in 2 different areas, I found a chair someone was throwing out and a few streets further up, I found an Igloo cooler without a lid. No drain spout. Perfect condition other than no lid. Do you think I could use the cooler to grow in? What should I do for the plants to be successful? Any thoughts? Both are bright red and I'm thrilled to get it set up in my container garden. Come Wednesday. I am getting a kiddie pool and setting a bunch of my containers in it on bricks to raise them. It's been so very hot I think they need the extra water – these grow bags need some help and the buckets do too. I'm gonna feed them that way, too. I'm learning. Wish I could show you my set up π I'm in Eastern NC. I sure enjoy your videos.
Was excited to do container zucchini but they all got white mildew
Awesome, am about to embark in gardening here I FL & needed to know the easiest way to start which would also be the best economic as well, this is great! Thank you, I believe this will be my route!
Lovin' it:) thanks Robbie. Gawsh, you're an amaZing human Be-ing! xoxox
Wow, when you are talking about capturing the nutrients that drain out of the container or growing something next to it, that is flipping smart, thank you. I have never heard anyone else cover that concept. Everyone just talks about how the nutrients drain away, but no one is capturing them…
Thank you for all this great information and ideas!
