The Best Plants for Container Gardens

There are many plants that are good for container gardens. Many of the best plants are probably the same ones you grow in raised beds and other garden areas. Consider container gardening as an option for you to grow more plants and a great gardening option if you’re new to gardening and want to start small. (Video #161)

  1. I always pick up something when watching your posts. Thank you as always 👍🏻👍🏼👍🏿🌈

  2. Great tips. It's 110° here and I really want my salads. I'm going to experiment with growing salad crops indoors. They wouldn't survive outside right now. And, I have a few pots and potting soil that's just sitting around feeling left out of the fun.

  3. We have had such crazy weather here in Pueblo, so I haven't planted my cucumber and squash seedlings. I replanted them into red solo cups and have been playing them outside each day but they are looking sickly and not well anymore. I have a spot ready for them but would it be better to just try to plant seed instead? It is it too late for seed?

  4. My cukes arent doing very well in 5 gallon buckets. They are way smaller than the hanging baskets which are much smaller. They are yellow and small. Too much water? Not enough? Too much fertilizer? Not enough? The tomatoes and beans are doing great.

  5. I love your videos and I am really looking forward to this series since I grow almost everything in containers. I hope you'll make a video about making potting soil mix with stuff like soil and compost and what things you could add

  6. i uncovered a pile of compost to find it spotted with whit and neon yellow mold //any idea what this is and is it still safe to use this in my garden

  7. We have a zucchini that is doing excellent in our 16 inch container, same with our pepper. We have cucumber in a 12 inch and it has 5 branches that are probably 6 or 7 feet long.
We have tomatoes in some 14 inch pots, and they are doing very well also. I feel like they would still be better in 16 inch containers though.
It's fun being able to move your plants around and decorate your space with them in different ways 🙂

  8. @ Gardner Scott , Hello Gardner Scott have not rotten you for a while this is Gary From AZ I have a question I pkanl

  9. Containers are all I do. Determinate & dwarf tomatoes (especially Celebrity, Red Robin, Tomitoes), dwarf cucumbers, celery, peppers, dwarf squash, elephant garlic, bunching onions, bush beans, Lacinto kale, spinach, mustard, collards, radishes, lettuce, beets, carrots, herbs, cabbage, German butterball potatoes & other indeterminate types potatoes in 15-45 gal containers, dwarf sunflowers (Sun Gold, Mardi Gras, Marigold)…all these do well in containers. If you're wondering about container sizes, bigger is always better. Mulch well. Rain & watering leeches everything out of container soil, & you have to watch out for deficiencies & fertilize more, but you can move a container out of the rain, wind, snow! (Corn, melons, pumpkin, goards…no)

  10. Thanks! I am exploring multiple different types of gardening to see what sticks. I find your videos informative and relaxing. As Pablo E Garcia jr said, you are like the Bob Ross of gardening 😀
