  1. We lined up three in an area of our yard that has underground lines buried and built a lovely surround from pallet wood we stained! Fabulous container garden of flowers and veggies!

  2. HDPE buckets n totes are pretty good too….
Lots of supermarkets, restaurants, bakeries, universities etc… any place that prepares alot of food…. regularly discard plastic buckets food was stored n shipped in… those are safe and free! My sons girlfriend provided a limitless supply of 4 gallon frosting buckets til they broke up. I had so many I placed in a circles n made a raised bed!

  3. Any chance it can be used if I can’t find a number? I have a bunch of black 18 gal totes that are made in USA but don’t have a recycling number on them. Let me know what you think

  4. I planted in a clear cantaner last year and yesterday I tried to pick it up to move it. Nothing was in it except compost. Everywhere I grabbed it broke off in my hands. I had the plastic pieces all over the place. 🤪

  5. Should we be concerned with any chemicals from the plastic leaching into the soil from the plastic sturdy totes?

  6. Very informative. I just got the idea to use bins bcs planters cost too much, when u need alot. I was wondering if it was safe to use the clear ones but no one else was mentioning if it was okay. But you nailed it and did a great job. Thanks.

  7. You have encouraged me to Finally start a veggie garden. So inspired by you! Loved your video about tulle as well. Have lots of birds here in central Florida!🐦🏡

I have one that the cats lay in it has cat nip in it for going on 3 years.

  10. I've used thr red Folgers plastic containers for my green onions they worked great. After about 15 years they started cracking and breaking down. I moved them to milk crates and they are doing well. Still looking for a permanent home for them. I liked what you said about the bins, I have about 13 of them. You've just gave me something to do with them thanks.

  11. I just bought 2 clear containers today. They are going back to the store tomorrow. This was perfect timing! Thanks

  12. Clear plastic is called clarified polypropelene they are they most basic clean form of platsic you will get there ia no additives to improve their life expectancy. PP is polypropelen it ia usually translucent pp with colour (not black) they are usually just polypropelene with color additives and other life additives such as a stabilizer pp BLACK is usually the lowest grade as black is made using reground defect product which is cheaper and can develop more problems
Hdpe is high density polyethylene is just a general oil based plastic and can be multiple variations of chemicals.
All plastic has a use life of 2 years after that all plastic begins to face structural quality controls. Just sone friendly info from someone in the plastic industry 🙂

  13. How did you prepare the ground to keep grass and weeds from growing through your mulch? It's a constant problem in Florida.

  14. If you live where it snows hard in the winter,2 to 3 feet , do you leave your totes outside?

  15. wont the black container create too much heat and raise the temp of the soil and water and burn your plants?

  16. I have a few that don’t have the number on the bottom which is so weird.

  17. Be aware that the colorant pigments used in plastic totes from China can be lead compounds. If made in the USA, you're probably OK.
