Container Gardening

BEFORE & AFTER Container Garden |

How do you tackle your container plantings? I do mine by groupings. This is a container garden corner in front of our studio outback. Every year it changes up a bit… This year it is going to be heavy on scented geraniums ans pelargoniums. I’ve included some tips on:

1. USING OLD POTTING SOIL

2. SLOW RELEASE FERTILIZER

3. Why I am planting smaller rather than larger Boxwood this year.

4. How I am using cut Nandina trunks as supports.

  1. What about manure? For veggies in containers? Should I put my chicken manure in the bottom or mix it?

  2. I am so glad I found you, and you are in my own backyard. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and your stinkin beautiful backyards. ♥️❤️

  3. I love geraniums. They always give me beautiful pops of color in my backyard. I have them in blue ceramic pots.

  4. From Michigan University: “Boxwood blight or “box blight” is a serious fungal disease of boxwood that results in defoliation and decline of susceptible boxwood. Repeated stem infections can kill young plants, and in larger plant specimens defoliation reduces the ornamental value of the plant and infection predisposes bushes to infection by other pathogens and environmental factors leading to plant death. Boxwood blight was first reported in 1994 in the UK and has spread throughout an additional 12 European countries and into Asia (Georgia and Iran), it was also reported in New Zealand in 1998. In 2011, it was detected for the first time in the US in Connecticut and soon after was reported in North Carolina and Virginia. Around this time, it was also reported in British Columbia, Canada. Boxwood blight has now been reported in 28 US states (AL, CA, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MI, MD, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, VA, WA, WI, WV), it was detected for the first time in Michigan in 2018. In Canada, it has been reported in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. The prediction is that boxwood blight will continue to spread throughout boxwood growing areas of North America.”

  5. I like how you are hands on, that means you know what you're doing … I'm very much hands-on, I really enjoy it.

  6. Hi Linda, I just love my pots and recently saw a tip for planting. Take the plants out of their pots and plant the pots firmly in the new container.then just twist the planted pots gently to remove and plop in the new plant . While the plants are waiting I just send them to the plant spa ( bucket of water) for a few minutes. Thank you for all the lovely ideas just need a little bit of your sunshine here in N.Ireland.
