I teach a lot of classes in person but the recent events have prevented group gatherings so I have started teaching via online webinars. A lot of folks have the time and interest to gain a little self-sufficiency in regards to their food supply right now so this is a quick-start approach on how to start a Florida vegetable garden. This is a recording of a webinar that I recently taught covering the 4 “S’s”: Sun, Soil, Seed, & Seasons to get you started growing a vegetable garden quickly. For example, leafy greens are something that loses nutrients very quickly but lettuce doesn’t grow in the summer heat, try growing tatsoi, New Zealand spinach, or amaranth instead for year-round leafy greens. This is not my typical YouTube video format but is instead a very informative talk on central Florida gardening 101.
If you would like to join future webinars live so that you can ask questions and interact then please head on over to my Facebook page for upcoming events.

I'm so glad I found you. A bunch of people from the roots and refuge community page recommended you! I'm over by Sanford, FL so this is amazing!
Iβm down the road in Lakeland and this was super helpful and encouraging!
I am so thankful I found your channel. It has helped me so much learning about organic Florida gardening. I have a shade tunnel on the south side of my home that I grow all of my herbs in. They do fantastic in this set up . I do all of my gardening in pots (plastic and fabric) I am working to find the best locations for my vegetable plants. 3/16/2021
Thumbs up !!
i would like the link for green stalk containers pls
Your video is very good. Excellent actually.
Thank you.
Just sold our house in Colorado and we are moving to the Sarasota area in a month. I will be tuning in to your advice when I get a garden going in our yard. Looking forward to not having early and late freezes — and actually gardening in the winter.
I just found you today and am so happy. My husband and I had a 24 foot above ground pool sunk 2 feet into the ground that is now gone and we are left with a 24 foot circle 2 foot deep and thought it would be a good idea to use it to grow food. Looking forward to learning as we have never attempted such a feat before but are determined and ready to get started. Any input or suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you! Btw, we are in St. Pete. Fl.
This video is packed full of information which benefits lots of people around the world and about sustainability living on our planet. I am seriously starting to grow my back yard vegetables and plants. Thanks so much for sharing. New subbed here. Hi from Australia ….be blessed ππ
I am building flower beds over gravel. There is black fabric under the rocks. do you recommend putting black fabric in the bottom of the box over the rocks or just put the soil over the rocks?
Thank you
My school just started a garden and I am the teacher for it! Do you have any resources for middle school age students?
Do not plant eatables next to house 3 – 5' . They sprayed Pre treat for termites . [ Chlordane 1986 and before ] . their is no Half=Life . Lasts forever . ! FYI !
Bravo, fantastic webinar π π π Thank you so much for all the valuable information. Blessings
I just got my seeds today & was so excited, but realized I'm probably too late to start from seed.π This was really informative & helpful though to let me know everything I should do ahead of time to prepare & learn for the next season. Definitely saved me from making some foundational mistakes. Thank you for the encouragement, it's hard to find info for only our area & it was cool to hear the hearty substitutes for summer salads. God bless!

Hi Elise, I'm so happy to find you on YouTube today, I have been watching you tube but most of the time, I would just get off an go do the best I can, I live in Belize central America, where we do not have available to me a place to buy soil already mixed etc etc. I am also 74 years old, mind you I do eat some things from my garden, I do have a compost pile, I also use the soil where we burn things an a little coco peet. Meny veg's do good, but like tomato I have planted meny tomato trees an they grow beautiful put out lots of flowers an fruit, but as soon as I think this tomato plant will survive an I might get some ripe, then they all die's. I did try to do the worms thing but was not successful. I don't know what the problem is with the tomatoes. I will keep on planting them in hopes that one day I will be successful. I have tried in containers as well as in the ground. I truly need your help, because Florida an Belize is kind of the same in menny things.
Thank you for sharing this information with us here in Florida, Iβm in Punta Gorda and just started gardening a few months ago.
Thanks very much. I'm in Pinellas and moved here from Europe so it's a whole new learning curve. Your videos are a great help.
looking for fellow gardeners in Interlachen FL or Palatka FL
I love your videos, I've been learning a lot about gardening and I love that we both live in St Pete, so our weather is the same.
That being said, Cuba is simply not a good example sorry, organoponicos failed miserably, I was there for it.
