Sloped Backyard Patio Ideas (Maximize space for fire)

Sloped Backyard Patio Ideas (Maximize space for fire)

Our Tuesday Tip for today: Sloped Backyard Patio Ideas that Maximize space for a fire feature

When thinking about designing your outdoor living space on a sloped yard, you may wonder how to maximize space in a sloped small yard. Please consider options with retaining walls and a firepit seat wall with backrest as a solution.

That is what Micah Dennis, the Outdoor Living Guy will share in this Tuesday Tips video. We all want to walk out onto a flat surface patio with destinations spots to head to. Many give up before they start – never realizing sloped backyard retaining walls are the solution. And they are a beautiful one. The video will share many completed landscapes on a slope near the house.

By excavating the slope and retaining it, and adding a firepit seat wall with a backrest to handle the slope – suddenly you have a beautiful destination with a fire pit that frames the entire outdoor living space.

That’s the tip – so don’t panic if you have a sloped backyard. Check out some ideas and solutions these other homeowners tried by putting a firepit on a slope:

  1. Love how the seat wall provides extra space for seating! And a good excuse for a fire pit. Thank you

  2. Love the content keep these great videos coming. Could you show more how these firepits are made? Are they always with a gas line or do you do some with a propane/fuel tank? Etc

  3. I have a side yard that has a about 1 foot slope on lowest part of slope where fence is. The higjesf part of slope starts from the side of the house and backyard porch going down to fence facing street. The space on side yard where I have slope is about 15 feet from house to fence and about 50 feet long. I wanted to take out about 1 foot of dirt to make that area flat, and add a drop down with maybe 2 steps where porch is to go down to flat area…I was thinking about adding concrete once is flat? This 2 guys that do concrete went to my house and said it was better to fill in the lowest part with dirt to make it flat and jse that space then lay concrete down. I know a retaining wall has to be build inside fence to hold dirt in. If I do it this way how far from fence should the retaining wall be?
The rest of my yard is pretty flat is. It's just the last 15 feet on side of the house towards the fence that I start getting the slope that I wanna make flat so we could use it too. Tje only problem with filling in that area with dirt is that I will have no privacy since tje rest of my yard already sits high and people can see the inside of my yard from street. That's why I was thinking of taking out dirt instead of adding? However, I can always add some type of pots with bamboo trees or add lattice or something for privacy?

  4. Liked and subscribed! Beautiful backyard. Where did you get the fire pit and conversation sectional sofa set? Are they custom built on site?
