Which Plastics Are Safe For Container Gardening? | Guten Yardening

We frequently use containers in our garden, and often that means using different types of plastic containers. So, we wanted to learn more about what type of plastic is safe for gardening.

In order to do that, we researched the 7 different types of plastic and learned which were best for the garden. We also based that on our previous experiences with gardening using plastic containers.

The recommendations we make in this video are based on our research, and while some plastics like PVC are commonly used, and some argue can be used without any problem in the garden, we still avoid using them.

We hope this video about the different types of plastics and common ways in which you find them is educational and useful to you as you build your garden this season.

Thank you for watching!

  1. This has been a huge concern for me since I`m planning a Krakty hydroponic adventure after I move. I use seven of the little tabletop all-in-one gardens and it becomes frustrating and confusing when plants get larger and suck up all the nutrient solution/water daily. So growing peppers or other large plants where leaf harvesting doesn`t happen is out of the question using methods where the reservoir is a gallon or less.

  2. like done…..Wow very well done my sweet friend. Outstanding performance and excellent presentation…God bless you always. Stay blessed always dear.

  3. I agree with everything in the video but would like to add additional warnings.
Make absolutely sure you know what was in the container you are using if it is not new. I work in the industrial sector and all of our oils, solvents and cleaning agents are shipped in #2 type plastic. That could lead to possibly poisoning your food from the residues.
Not trying to scare anyone just be careful about what you are using.

  4. 5 o clock in the morning, im up checking all my containers. I grow inside. Sterilite containers ok, #5. And yes starting greens in k cups # 5. Nice to know im ok. Thanks for your public service. Much needed.

  5. I would love to see a video of all of your green stalks where you talk about what you are growing in each one!
