http://www.serene-gardens.com presents this video of mainly traditional gardens that were featured at the 27th National Urban Gardening Festival, held in Nara Japan in 2010. Visit Grand Island Serene Gardens for more information. In the background is my Shakuhachi bamboo flute song from my CD “Mahoroba”.

  1. these are gardens made in japan by japanese, i think you're confusing with other japanese style called zen style.

  2. Yea, I agree with some of these comments in that seemed a bit overdone and were lacking the zen qualities associated with japanese gardens. Of all of them the one at 4:20 looked the most appealing.

  3. Garden area small in scale, many rocks appear out of scale to the garden and those clustered together. I also agree that they are crowded often with too many types of species. Simple with mass of a few species are secrets of Japanese gardens.

  4. Thought the same: kinda too many cluttered rocks into small space for zen feeling; nice shakuhachi; first wondered if these were Japanese designs but is says held in Nara, Japan; anyway enjoyed video!

  5. These Japanese gardens from Japan which are not Zen gardens aren't nearly Japanese and/or Zen enough for Westerners?  Somebody better tell the Japanese they're Japaning all wrong.
