In real life, Richard Winters was full of praise for Montgomery. Winters said Montgomery was the real deal and an example of great leadership. In contrast to his own general Maxwell Taylor. Winters referred to Taylor as a phony, more interested in pleasing his superiors than in the well being of his men.
