BANANA BLOSSOM LAJ [Laab]: Paaj Tsawb Laj

Nyob Zoo all!

Today, I wanted to show you our beautiful 5 year old banana tree.  It has been growing amazing this year so we will be storing the leaves for later use. Along with that, it also grew 3 banana flowers. So I wanted to show you how you can use up the banana blossoms. Banana blossoms are edible and are great in soups, salad, garnishes, stew, soups, and so many other dishes. Today, I’ll show you how to make a banana blossom laj or laab. It’s super easy & tasty to make. So I hope you all enjoy 🙂

My name is Cindy Her and I have been cooking and baking for quite a long time now! Hmong food culture and tradition is dear to my heart and I wanted to keep our roots intact somewhere. So this is why I started this channel to keep me and you connected to the Hmong culture. I hope you all learn a little bit about the Hmong food culture and try out these recipes! As always, happy cooking 🙂

  1. Lovely. I'm inspired to learn more about growing a banana tree. Great instructional on banana leafs processing and flowers (who knew???). I've had fish cooked in banana leaves…the Laj looks amazing…I will definitely keep my eye out for banana flowers at our local market

  2. Perfect! I have a can sitting in my pantry for a few months and have no idea how to use it😅 thank you!!

  3. Is there a reason you chopped off the blossom Before it made bananas? as the blossom is usually about the same size after it has made bananas. seems like such a waste of food, most blossoms I have seen for cooing were harvested after the fruiting

  4. I live in myrtle creek Oregon and my zone is 8b. I would love your opinion if I could grow it here? Your dad trims the banana tree like a artichoke. Can you eat the core of the banana stack? Thank you for the wonderful recipe. Looks yummy. I go to eugene to the Asian market. Going to pick up banana blossom and try this. ❤

  5. Thank you ka strong for showing on how to treat the banana tree to have a more production and so on how to make a menu out of the banana blosoom.

  6. Oh my goodness girl I'm over here salivating at that everything and anything that you put out just makes my mouth water I love the Hervaceousness of every dish that you create this dish is especially special cuz it looks to me like it would taste just like an artichoke heart tell me if I'm wrong, I think I'm right I don't know u tell me.??? Irregardlesss

it looked really delicious and how you presented it look perfect thank you for sharing, cuz sharing is like caring have a good weekend..🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

  7. This looks amazing! I love banana blossoms though I have only cooked and eaten the canned version. Now I will purchase the fresh version and give it a try.

I absolutely love your videos… and the way you film the whole process. From growing, to harvest, to cooking, to serving, and, of course, the culinary history and traditions behind each dish, is AMAZING! I even love the appearances of your Grandmother, Father, and Mother. Thank you so much.

I didn't even think you could grow bananas that far from the equator.

  8. Thank you for showing how to prepare the banana blossom dish. I have 5 types of banana trees and my trees bare 10 stalks of bananas a year. Now I know what to do with the blossoms.

  9. I’ve never had banana blossoms before. What does it taste like? Is it similar to bamboo shoots?
