My wish has been granted!! Thank you for the amazing video thank you for showing us traditional Japanese architecture! I always wonder how you manage to convince people to show you around their houses XD To be honest if my house was like that I would want to brag about it.
The view from upstairs when it rains must be a sight to see
While certainly beautiful I would not mind seeing a full on traditional house for sale that isnt extremely modernized. Granted, this one had to undergo renovations and I am glad that the old effectivly ruin got to shine once more. But one can only imagine what it would have looked like with its more traditional parts reimagined over… redone and modernized instead.
I loved how that place was restored. The food was a great bonus as well.
This is so exciting.
Dr Jelly tee looks fire
shame connor wasn't there to start world war 6 against the deer believing his life is in imminent danger
well this is No Gucci indeed!
I DO want to see more furnished Japanese homes and traditional homes. ๐ Wasn't just me?
Lovely place. Thanks Alex.
Ngl I personally like the befor pictures better as the revoated house
At first I was excited to potentially see around the 7:15 and 14:45 minute marks were 3-hole basin mixers, that may as well have been manufactured by the company I am employed at. But they aren't (sadly). Neither are the shower or the bath-tub mixer. Okay, job-related geeking over. ๐
3:22 You know the property's a real deal when the owner wears a Patek Phillipe Aquanaut. ๐
walks into the garden ahh I can feel my stress level going down
hearing about the price stress level going up ๐ฅฒ
Every corner of this place seems to have been designed so you always have an art piece or scenery in view(or No Gucci), absolutely dripping with style. At some points it felt like they somehow fused the past with modern architecture!
I'd love to see more places with gardens on this channel ๐ This looks amazing!
Oh for crying out loud. If you cannot even pronounce to most basic place names of Japan properly, at least check your basic geography for your next video. Nara is not south of Osaka, its right smack east of it. Did you not even look at a map when going there? Geez.
My kitchen doors also open when you touch them. I did not spend two million at IKEA for this marvel.
40,000 dollar book shelf. Some people live in different worlds, man… lmao.
This was really nice, love the attention to detail.
Keep it up with this series man! It's really interesting
Lavish and stylish well done video.I would say it would be interesting to see of Noguchi vs Gucci
"Oh wow" indeed
Iโm a huge fan of traditional East Asian buildings, the blend of modern and traditional is amazing
My in-laws lived in Ikoma, and the train station had a shop that sold the persimmon wrapped sushi.
One of my all time favorites and annoyingly I've never seen it outside of Japan.
As someone who has some interest in design, watching Chris gawk at this house and being explained Noguchi and Sori Yanagi was great. I never thought I'd hear Chris ever mention Noguchi, especially as many times as he has. Would be fun to see someone knowledgeable take him on a museum tour and see how he reacts to things. This is probably my favorite house ever featured on this channel, love how they preserved the old beams, use of midcentury era furniture mixed with modern minimalism, and indirect lighting scheme that also included highlighting the preserved ceiling. Really show's Japan's strength at mixing old and new styles and strong design culture.
His comment on the push to open cabinets is funny because you can get that from IKEA at a reasonable price or convert existing cabinets with a few parts from Amazon. Also, it's true that those specific Noguchi pieces are beautiful and probably expensive, but the standard ones you can get online officially or through eBay are reasonably priced (<$200 starting) for being handcrafted pieces of art that carry the Noguchi reputation. I have a few myself and they are well worth it.
Could you do some videos of affordable homes? They can be in the country or the cities. Thanks!

What an estate! Had a question for you Alex; do you script your videos or are they largely improvised?
It looks amazing. My only real complaint is that you didn't show the kitchen!
Low shelflife only if you neglected them for 30-50 years. Wood beams can stand for hundreds of years if you keep living in those houses and heat them appropriately.
These are amazing, and I love seeing them!
One of my favorite things to do whenever Iโm in Japan is to wander around the older districts and check out the houses and buildings!
Keep up the great work, boys!
