Wet Weather | Plot Flooding | Have to change plans | Green Side Up

Last few days we have had a huge ammount of rain and we are saturated here in Cumbria. When I planted the Garlic the other day I was stood in four inches of water! So I have had to adapt to what Mother Nature wants to do and change my plans a little…

If you are enjoying my content, you can help me by buying me a packet of seeds. https://ko-fi.com/greensideup

  1. Thank you for your videos, they really have helped me fall in love with my plot again. You say if you can help you will so here goes…. I've never done seed sowing in the autumn or winter but you kept saying 'give it a go' so I did. My question is should I put some covering over them? They are in cell trays in my clunky old greenhouse. Thanks Steve…Julie

  2. THAT CABBAGE!! Sheesh, what type is it, please?
Shame about that rain, we'll all have to adjust to new weather I guess, half of my garlic drowned last season so I'm putting them in raised beds now. Love your polytunnel, 'full of promise' 🙂

  3. 200 Miles south of you the top of the ground is still dust, beneath that the 300mm layer of clay topsoil has baked into huge 'tectonic plates' sitting on the damp solid clay subsoil underneath and I can't dig holes, regrade, lay slabs or rotorvate.

    I envy your waterlogged soil!

Well, not completely, but I have bed sized heavy duty black polythene dpm sheets ready to lay over mine when they get just enough rain to soften them, which will get removed to work on them as soon as (if?) it stops.

  4. Hi Steve, sorry about the flood & puttimg back your new polytunnel build too 🙄 hopefully you will get a dry day couple of days to get going. All your plants are doing very well & love you composting bed made out of polystyrene. great video thanks for sharing and take care 🙂

  5. At 5 minutes, Steve, Red Grenoble lettuce – have you had any success with it? Everyone I spoke to has had very poor germination and I only had two sickly plants from two packs of seed!

  6. Hi Steve. Mother nature has put you off course for the moment getting on with your new polly tunnel I am sure it will all work out in the end. always look forward to seeing your videos and comments. THANKS TIM 😊

  7. I have had a cabbage like that,I shared it with my Grandson, half each..i cannot find out what sort it is…i was wondering myself…lubbley grubbley.. it was quite slow maturing.

  8. Does that area (where the new tunnel is going) get waterlogged? Build a low wall around it to stop that lol. I feel sorry for thecworms, do you have a worm farm?

  9. New subscriber here Steve. Where did you get your root trainer pots please? Can I ask a cheeky question. I like many people, have needed to grow my own food as much as now in my whole life. Can you/ will you please, starting in the new year tell us what to sow, how to sow seeds at the right time. I think Ive said before 🤔 I don’t have a green house or a polly tunnel and not really much gardening experience. I usually just buy plants and put them in the garden! Thank you B&Q. I don’t understand about succession planting or sowing in order to plant out veg at the correct time. The nation needs your help Steve please ❤

  10. What a shame about the water log, ruining your plans. Hopefully u can get the tunnel up next week.

  11. Great update Steve, plenty going on in the tunnels, shame we get so much rain up here, we only know its summer when the rain gets warmer LOL

  12. “adaptive” That’s what we have to be as gardeners. I plan, but it has to be a flexible “adaptive” plan. We’ve had frost and I am covering, because we have a beautiful week ahead to hopefully finish off most of what’s left. I can’t grow all year like you do, it’s just to cold and snow covered. Totally appreciate your vlogs and tips.

  13. As the saying goes 'the best laid plans of mice and men' test us all at times
Keep up the good work 👍

  14. It’s amazing you have had so much rain , here in Cornwall it’s so warm and apart from a few showers very little rain, a local reservoir is only 30% full, my climbing beans are still growing and I have blossom on my apple tree. All very worrying.

  15. Cheers Steve, always watch but seldom comment, always learn a little some thing, and you never fail to inspire mate
