We are in Zone 5B and these are the Egyptian Walking Onions we have growing on our front yard garden. All the plants we have in this area are hardy perennials. We never water this garden even during the hot summer days.
The stems support the bulbs that grows on top. When the bulbs mature and gets heavier, the stem begins to dry out and weakens and topples over. The bulbs fall at a distance. The little onions have tiny root nubs and small green leaf blades. Where it falls will be a new location of growth for the next season.

Very nice video of this onions. We have here now in the Netherlands also hot summer days. And our country need lots of water and perhaps other countries too. Lots of animals get many problems. We pray now for some rain.
