SUCCESS! We Bred Our First BRAND NEW Fig Variety!

I began my fig breeding experiment one year ago and in that short time, one of my new fig trees produced its first ripe fruit! This brand new fig variety we bred is one of a kind and the only fig tree like it in the world! We are so excited to share this incredible success with you all!

Breeding figs is an amazing process. Because figs require cross pollination to produce fertile seed, all seedlings produced from individual seeds are genetically unique, new fig varieties. 2. Congratulations, I’ve been following your experiment from the beginning. Hope there are more successes coming. Will you name this new cultivar?

  3. Why didn’t you just throw a frost cover over your new strain allowing as much maturation time as it needed to get the best taste test?

  4. Congratulations on your experiment. You always share great gardening information. I watch you al the way from the Virgin Islands.

  5. Congratulations 👏👏👏👏👏😋😋😋😋😁💃💃💃💃🎊🎊🎊🪅🪅🪅🎉🎉🎉

  6. If you are planning on getting rid of your persistent caprifigs, I would be interested in obtaining one or two. I have enjoyed your experiment.

  7. Congratulations. Now my question is how do you keep it from freezing during cold winter months?

  8. Love this! video! I decided to try my hand at fig breeding this year. The seedlings are still very small but doing well. Then brds decided to join the breeding program & planted several wild figs in the yard as well . So many surprises await. I had no idea that they can produce fruit at just one year!

  9. Did you pinch them to encourage fruiting or just let them be? So happy for you!

Random fig question cause I've been seeing this on YouTube lately, not many videos, but it has popped up. Have you heard or tried this upside down rooting experiment? I can't see it making sense, but the videos I've seen never show rooting? Sorry to bother you with this question lol

  10. Nice..
I've been waiting for this video..
I cross peppers and tomatoes regularly never thought of doing figs until I saw your video now I can't wait to try thanks for all the helpful info. It is surprisingly difficult to find

  11. great job. congrats to you.. the trees looking good and healthy. BEARD up . winter is fast approaching.. keep yourself warm.

  12. My Chicago cold hearty figs still aren't ripening. All green Nickel-quarter sized. Tomorrow is One last fertilizing before the winter.
Got a week of 60's (70's in the greenhouse) so Fingers crossed I get some swelling fruits. I dont have space to bring in that big beauty unfortunately.
If I dont get fruit this year though she's going in the dirt early Spring so I'll definately get fruit next season. Just need to cut down a tree to make a spot.

  13. The inside looks nice like light strawberry there and congrats on your success my man! Rock on!!!

  14. I love the way fig trees look, the leafes are gorgeous and the main stem once it grows bigger looks so nice. Next year ill go and attempt to grow my very first fig tree or bush, and it will be a ronde de bordeaux curious to see if i can get them going in my climate[netherlands], only a few fig varieties survive here and RTB should be one of them 🙂
