How to Build a Backyard Garden Pond
This video walks you through the main steps for building a backyard garden pond.
I just covered the main details to give an overview. There is more information on the post at my blog and a good pond kit will come with detailed instructions.
I built this pond myself and it took about 25 hours total including digging the hole and putting all the rocks in place.
Before you consider getting a pond, be certain it is both safe and legal in your area.
If so, you need to choose a site that is level, away from trees and falling leaves, and has access to an approved outdoor electrical outlet for running the pump.
The basic steps are:
1. Get a pond kit. The one I used is made from Aquacape and included everything I needed other than the rocks and aquatic plants. This made it simple to be sure I had all the right parts and pieces.
Here’s a similar kit on Amazon:

and order the rocks and stones. A good landscaping retail business familiar with ponds should be able to calculate the amount of rocks you will need.
2. Dig the hole.
3. Set up the waterfall and skimmer with pump.
4. Add the rocks and gravel.
5. Fill with water.
6. Add plants and lanscaping.
7. Fish can be added in a few weeks when the pond is naturalized and ready.
The pond is still new but it’s quickly becoming my favourite part of the garden.

That is a beautiful looking pond. How is the pond now? Is the water still really clear?
Looks really neat, I build one just like that without the rocks and gravel. I was told it was hard to clean out the gong.

GREAT JOB..
remember no koi and ponds take time to mature .
