That's what I noticed from the beginning of the Ukraine war. Countries like the US are pushing against all countries that are competitors. Even Kissenger seemed surprised and he is no unicorns and cotton candy guy. Doesn't seem good for sure.
Planted garlic today!
Don't forget to harvest the Garlic Scapes once they begin to curl; this is a must in order to force the nutrients down into the bulb to grow, at least for HardNeck Garlic. In my area, the scape appear in May/June. The scapes are delicious when tender, kinda like a tender garlic tasting green bean. Then in another month or so the bulb can be harvested once a few of the leaves turn brown. From my experience, the critters stay away from gardens which have garlic growing.
Save the larger cloves to replant then the medium-smaller cloves are eaten or canned.
We already planted 500 cloves and have another 300 to plant before the ground freezes.
There are too many benefits of garlic to list here… The least of which is to ward off vampires, I have yet to have seen one.
Garlic is a good medicine as well as seasoning.

GARLIC GROWING TIP:
To grow much bigger bulbs,
Eat the garlic “Scapes”( flower stalks ) that only the hard neck varieties produce in May & June, harvest ALL the flower stalks (But not the leaf stalk ) just as soon as they curve into one complete loop, use them chopped on top of pizza or in stir fry, or whatever way you’d serve broccoli or asparagus. They store well in freezer, also chopped.
DELICIOUS! It’s a win win to take the FLOWER stalks, as they take mass from the bulb otherwise. See the web for intel on garlic scapes.
They are considered to be a high end delicacy.
If you are new to growing garlic I would recommend some how to videos on YouTube. It is easy to grow but there are some things to know for good healthy crop such as a heavy layer of mulch for the winter, fertilizing, scape removal, best time to harvest and drying / storage methods. Once you grow your own crop you never have to buy it again. Also I’ve planted it as late as the middle of November here in Wisconsin and still had a decent harvest though that’s getting a little late.

I've actually had better luck with grocery store garlic than seed company garlic. Probably because its locally grown.
Just finished planting my garlic today. I won't say how much but I will say that there is a wonderful niche market for both garlic AND the scapes. Music, Duganski & German Red… all hardneck varieties. Northeast PA area.

Why plant garlic now? Mine grows year round, out on a tropical island. Grow it in summer.
