I canned 4 lbs of dry beans the other day. I was truly surprised at how many pre-made meals for 2 I made. Did some pints for side dishes and quarts for a meal.
I have alot of sugar,honey and brown sugar stocked up 😃 😊 my husband doesn't even know I have it.
Boil the lentils then add to the ground meat and fry with the ground meat in the meat fat, juice. Pasta Fagioli is a good use for beans. Chickpea curry.
I make black bean burgers and I add red lentils and its very good. I rarely eat meat. I do eat salmon, tuna.

I've always cooked from scratch as prepare stuff is too expensive. My mom grew up in the depression, so I was raised making everything from scratch. Who has money for half empty boxes?
I buy big containers of peanut oil it has a high smoke point and stores well and doesn't impact the flavor of food. I also save as much natural fats as I can. The next time you barbeque over wood, trim some of the fat and put in a aluminum pan on the far side of your smoker. If it doesn't render completely you can finish rendering it on the stove. Smoked tallow used to fry your food makes your food taste smoked.

I’ve heard several stories from different preppers that during the depression, families were limited to one cup of sugar per week. Hard to bake a pie, cake or cookies with one cup of sugar. 😩
Brown sugar. Very little in my preps. No matter what you do, it gets hard. I make my own brown sugar – 1 cup sugar and 1 tsp of molasses. Mix together. Voila- brown sugar on demand.

tried to make homemade vegetable soup with dry beans, split peas, lentils – I followed the recipe on the bag. it was yuck. tried again seasoning carefully – added 3/4 cup of shells, can of stewed tomatoes. my husband came in and tasted and asked for hamburger to be added. even though I had to go buy that, it was still pretty cheap for two meals and leftover batch for the freezer. experiment and create something new

All cooking oils after a while will go flow , builder and use as oil for lamps including bacon grease that has gone South heating and filtering you might not want to eat it but it will burn

Once you are done using your soup bones to make broth, you can use the bones to make bone meal to put in your garden. Pinball has a video on how to make homemade bone meal for the garden and how to use it.
Brown suger can be made with white sugar and molasses
Powdered milk for baking
Use your russet potatoes skins to try makes good chipnsnack. Try in oil yummy
Spices I suggest getting the bulk, Whole Form- whole cumin seeds, fennel, peppercorn and a handheld grinder.
