  1. I wish I knew the calorie maths behind canning and pickling. Cost of jars and lids, the process itself, shelf life, potential waste etc. Offset by bargain bulk purchasing and inflation hedging….
All in all, I'm happy to learn from channels like this.

  2. Wow! What an amazing pantry tour! Thank you so much for sharing it all with us. It is a goal of mine to finally begin using my pressure canner 🙂 and I love the idea of having my own convenience foods on the shelf, ready to use. In one of your recent videos you mentioned how you menu plan for your family. I was hoping to find that tidbit again to rewatch as I need inspiration for the same for my family. Can you point me in the direction where that was or perhaps mention it again in a future video? Thank you so much for what you do and taking the time to do what you do 🙂

  3. You are one of the few I have seen that makes sure you don't have food sitting on the floor/ground.

  4. You may want to consider using the non-pickled beets in borche soup. I’ve seen videos on it and it looks very tasty.

  5. I thought I'd done something wrong, because I lost my cabbages, too. Finding out that it's not just me is very comforting. So glad I found your video.

  6. Good morning – You tube recommended your channel, wow that pantry is impressive. Looking forward to catching up on some other videos.

  7. Hi
I admire your resourcefulness. I recognized the logo of Anita's Organic products, so I figured out that you are Canadian. Watching from Kelowna.

  8. im curious about several of your recipies, have you considered doing a cookbook? You can go through Morris press and print your own for resale… I know i would buy several to give as gifts

  9. I absolutely enjoyed the pantry tour, thank you so much. It is fascinating to see that you are able to can and store for a large family the way you do it and I do understand if you enjoy a bit of relaxation regarding canning during the wintertime!! And Dan is an excellent Photographer. All the best to you and your family.

  10. If you take those beets that you did in salt water, make your pickle brine hot and pour over the drained beets. Lets it in the fridge for a week and you have pickled beets. Delicious on salad. I tried it with a #10 can of beets and it worked

  11. I live in northern Illinois and we also never had an earthquake in my lifetime, until . . . I woke up around 4 a.m. to our bedroom shaking from a small earthquake. I thought I was dreaming because we never get earthquakes.

  12. Does canned ketchup last longer than bottles? How do you handle the can when you open it? We are Heinz snobs.

  13. ideas to extended the corn season is make a big tall wooden frame with construction tarp 6mil

  14. Me thinks you are just showing off!! hehe, kidding. Very impressive.

Curious, how do you really find that canned Beef? I find it is alway's way too overdone, and is almost dry/powdery. I can't seem to get anything other than Canned ground meat forming a good texture.

Is it the type of beef that you are stewing? I think I'd have to use the absolute toughest cuts of meat to not have them overcook. Chicken chunks are barely palatable to me either. Wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

You seem to mostly do pickles, and sauces/broths. You don't can most vege's plain? Again I find those are overdone but wondering if I am doing something wrong. Don't you get tired of pickles? Do you just eat them by themselves or add them to stews? How do you use so many pickles?

Thanks and great video and an amazing Pantry. I know in my own small way how much work that is!

  15. I did 500 jars 7 weeks of work me and 82 mom been canning for 50 years now . 1000 jars tell mom need pick it up lol

  16. I'm starting my sustainable journey and canning is on the goal list. It seems like there are a lot of sugary things, pickles… And so many beans… How many people are you normally feeding? How often do you eat beans? Sweets?

  17. I had canned tomatoes and hot pepper relish grandmother can I was stored in the basement that was 15 to 20 years old and was perfectly fine so how's the side of the light still sealed, it's best to use within one or three years though, I lost my Caning jars in the move, miss that and my garden

  18. I just subscribed to your channel & I loved your pantry tour & love the whole process myself. I have a thought for you for your carrots; if you cut off the growing end of your carrots, they won’t sprout & will stay crisp much longer. We have a root cellar under our garage floor. When my husband’s parents homesteader our farm they had an ice pit that was the pioneers answer to a fridge & freezer. In the early ‘60’s they built our present home & incorporated their ice pit under the garage floor. It’s excellent & we have potatoes, carrots, parsnips, etc. right into summertime.
We farm in Alberta, close to the Saskatchewan border. I’m excited to explore your channel!!

  19. Amazing! I'm getting into canning for the first time and preserving food and building a pantry. It's a lot of work but any extra knowledge is welcomed!

  20. It is so reassuring to see how successful the garden can be in zone 4. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pantry! You've given me lots of ideas 🙂

  21. OH wow! I love fireweed jelly. Never knew that I could use the leaves fermented and dried for tea. Thanks!

  22. To use your salsa verde, just pour a jar or two over frozen chicken breasts in the crock pot , cook until tender and shred to use on burritos or tacos. i agree with you on the plum jelly and jam! Although pomegranate is the family favorite. Just moved north to UT, and will try to find some pomegranate bushes to grow here. If they can survive 80 miles north on USU campus, I will make it work here

  23. Can you grind the stringy chicken and add an egg and some bread crumbs , seasonings etc and make some chicken meatballs?

  24. iF YOU MAKE YOU SOME FIREWEED JELLY, PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW IT TURNS OUT. I HAD A REQUEST FOR FIREWEED JELLY, BUT IN OKLAHOMA WE DO NOT HAVE ANY. DO YOU KNOW IF THERE IS A WAY I CAN ORDER SOME FROM UP THERE IN CANADA? I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR PANTRY…LOTS AND LOTS OF WORK!!

  25. I appreciate you guys showing your pantry, and root cellar you gave me more insight on what to can, I'm new at this, thanks again 😀
