  1. Great video! I've seen the round pipes "connected" to the square drains many times before. Is that a US thing? Are there no connectors to make it look better? Ot is it widly accepted as the way to do it?

  2. Concrete by the side door? Run a gully down the middle of the drive? 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧

  3. Hi Shawn, nice to see you guys out there. I see you brought a couple of Harvey’s men on the the job. Another problem solved. You know I watch some of the French drain man’s videos and shake my head. I was also wondering would your system work in NY where you would get severe freezing? I did have my gutters done never really had any problems. Look at me answered my own question 😂. Take care looking forward to next video that way I don’t have to look at the old ones lololol.
    Take care…….Bobby L

  4. Does running your pipe higher up the wall help on runs with less/no fall ? Kinda like a water tower effect ?

  5. I think you will be back out there to install some kind of sump pump system to get it out to the street…

  6. For that area by the door, maybe a little concrete slab? Either square by the door, or starting there and running to the back corner?

  7. Here in the UK the ground level has to be at least 6" below damp proof level so the floor level inside the house is 4" above damp proof level so this problem wouldn't occur. Unless the house was pre WW2

  8. The height of that pipe by the garage is 3 to 4 feet tall and that will help force the water to flow down the pipe. Make sure you let the customer knows that you do stump removal as well. This company does such good work for their customers.

  9. Looks like you just moved the issue to the adjacent properties. I would not be happy with the surface and or near surface pipework, what about frost and ultraviolet protection?

  10. Maybe think about getting some old sheets of ply to put down for your skidsteer to track and turn on, they would save on repairs to lawns and drives.

  11. What if someone wanted you to use or have you ever thought of using black PVC pipe to sort of hide it better when you out it behind bushes??

  12. Great job Shawn, always happy to see new uploads from you. Also interesting to see the differences between our work in the UK and how you get it done over there, you sure are good with that skid steer! Was glad to stumble across your videos some years ago before doing a massive amount of drainage work on my own property with French drains and catch basins, and all in solid PVC of course! The only real difference is we don't tend to solvent weld our underground pipe here, but rather we use joiners with tight fitting rubber seals, the drainage I fitted has a 4" pipe flowing full during extreme weather, appreciate the videos and help you offer others 🙂

  13. Another great solution to a difficult property. Great to see how you use your equipment to make less work, getting the soil out of the truck up to the foundation. All Good 👍!

  14. I would take that door out, and cut that brick down, and add about 3 inches of concrete and do what it takes to increase the height of the door opening, then cut the drive along the timbers to MAKE the water drain away, water is so destructive. (as the 7th Grade teach said, Universal Solvent)

  15. if not a sump or a line to, and down to the low back of the garage, he is going to have to raise that door sill a few inches, maybe 4 and hope he can raise the (look up) head jambs accordingly, it can be done a good carpenter can do this…,

  16. Ok, I know it's easy to make comment, but as a regular supporter, and in good faith, it would be remiss of me if I failed to say that I thought that the connection to the gutter pipe on the garage was not quite up to your proffesional standard to look at.

  17. Since the door opens right onto the driveway, couldn't you slope into a french drain below grade and hide an entire french drain under the exposed gravel? Go across to the other side of the driveway, at least.

  18. I love that "Pine needs aren't good for covering up drainage problems, but they are good for covering up drainage solutions" …

  19. For in front of the door with that slight slope and not much room to fill in (15:50)… I cut up a koi pond liner and butted it up to the house going out about 4 feet. 20 years in and I haven't had any water in the basement (unlike before). PS: What a great-looking home and nice to see it kept so nice.

  20. What do you think about the dual wall 4” corrugated pipe? Smooth wall inside and ribbed outside. I like it because it still has some flex to it and putting fittings on is a lot faster/simpler than schedule 40.

  21. Have your ever thought about doing a dry well? I've know a few people who have used them. Just wondering your thoughts on them.

  22. The reciprocity you show towards your guys is admirable, you build them up by trusting their judgment, in turn creating a shrewdness within them to Have the confidence to do it without you.

  23. I'm not used to anyone besides you speaking so much in one of your videos. Jeremy seems like he likes his job.

  24. Having seen a recent video on all the great benefits of corrugated pipe, and seeing how easy it is to cut, please let me know how much you're selling that old pipe. Will arrange for pick up if the price is right! 😉

  25. Excellent. I think this is the second time your guttering colleagues (who need their name on their side of their van/truck) have used black guttering which improves the look. GCFD is going from strength to strength and good on them, they deserve it.

  26. What You do? Never let the debris get into the drainage pipes, separate it already at the end of the downpipe. Where to let out the water = install an underground plastic collector/basin. That will slowly let the rainwater drain back into the groundwater.
Read a learn how the pro's do it: file:///C:/Users/Admin/Downloads/F-54665-0.pdf

  27. HDPE corrugated pipes have some flexibility when buried underground. That flexibility is important to cater for ground movements and seasonal changes.
To avoid trapped debris, corrugated pipes need to be installed with minimum 3% slope from inlet to outles/daylight which most installers skipped and gave that pipes bad names.

  28. That black pipe works fine in some circumstances. I think in this case it was trapping debris in it mostly because it was not daylighted so it had no where to go. Sch 40 or sdr35 pipe is for sure much better though

  29. Hey, would you consider doing a collection of unedited videos of just you on the excavator doing different jobs, my 2yr old nephew loves watching men at work.

  30. Assuming the Client can afford it, you could always solve the water problem by digging out the last 15-20 feet of the gravel driveway and pouring a concrete pad that either slopes out to the grass opposite the house door, or slopes to an out of the way spot in the pad and install a sump pit & pump to fire the water into the drainage pipe you just installed on the house at the fence…

And if the Client has some serious cash burning a hole i his Bank Account, you could always replace the ENTIRE gravel driveway with properly sloped concrete and perhaps (if the Gods of Slope and Drainage anoint you with their Favour) be able to send all that water right out to the street…

  31. Great job Shawn and crew. I know the homeowner is happy with the results. They can enjoy their home without having to worry about water issues. Can't wait until the next video Shawn.

  32. Just a quick suggestion put a tarp down on top of any stone driveways under the back tail gate of the truck so when your scooping the dirt any dirt that falls will fall on the tarp and it’s a way easier clean up when your finished. This way the dirt doesn’t get all over the stone driveway. That’s what I do when mulching or spreading dirt and I want to protect certain spots. Great video as always Shawn!
