Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment 2023 is here! Is Social Security enough to live on? I share tips on how to live on a fixed income like Social Security.
In this video, we are discussing the Social Security Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA). The COLA affects the monthly benefits paid to Social Security recipients and changes monthly based on changes in the cost of living. The benefit amounts for each month are released on the first of the month.

If you’re wondering how the Social Security system works or how your benefits are impacted by the COLA, then this video is for you! We’ll discuss the different rules and how they impact your benefits. We’ll also show you how to find out your monthly benefit amount and how to claim your benefits.

  1. I live in KS & I'm on Medicare & Sunflower. Sunflower will not let you work. I've called them.
I'd love to pick up a job. Sunflower says I cannot make 1cent or I lose Sunflower.

  2. One thing you are forgetting is that you cannot compare inflation from the past to today’s inflation. They removed two key elements from their calculations, food and energy. Add those two things back in and inflation is far more than they are reporting.

  3. Hey Jill, your income makes you eligible for SSI. You can ask for it at your local SSA office or by calling the national 800 number. You will receive approximately $100 federal SSI along with the state payment if your state pays an additional amount. Don't leave that money on the table.

  4. I don't have or use credit cards. This is why I am purchasing Christmas gifts throughout the year. I get an idea of who I want to buy for and how much I want to spend and I am usually done by Halloween and ready to go with no stress

  5. Since I've been watching you tube and videos like yours, I have been regularly switching my utilities, spending less on clothes, etc and more importantly started to overpay my mortgage. As a result I am 44 and will pay off my house in 3 years so by 47 will have a house and 2 cars paid for in full.

  6. Tough love really helps especially with all of your excellent tips! We're paying off our mortgage as fast as we can & are already reaping the benefits of that! I can't wait to pay it off completely! 🥰 Blessings from South Australia💕🐨

  7. Im lucky overhere in western Australia our winters dont get too cold, but because i have fibromyalgia and a weak chest i rug up alot but my issue is when it gets cold breathing in cold air hurts my chest and i get sick. Apart from wrapping a scarve aroundmy face i cant think of any other option in regards to not breathing in cold air

  8. The government has changed the way they measure inflation in order to make it seem not as bad as it really is. Just saying.

  9. Nice to see you two. I have finally reduced my work, changed jobs to a secure state job, in the school system in my country, with good benefits, like retirement plan, company phone, insurances and so on. I work 50%. I have a small pension as well. To do this, I cut every expense I could think of, from steaming to cutting down on electricity, buying food on sale and so on. I need to drive to work, but I try to be economical, and do other errands on working days. Even in these expensive times it is possible. (With a mortgage, but otherwise debt free) I have a lot of firewood though, I can´t deal with being cold at home. 😅 But the firewood is already bought and paid for, and some are from my own property.

  10. I live in Tucson, AZ and in the horrible summers here, the lowest we put our air conditioner on is 80 degrees and that's at night. During the day its on 82 or 83.

  11. It's a long story but I can't go back to subsidized housing. I guess i need to look to rv because its a challenge in this house market to get something that one can afford on SSI

  12. The tiny house and shed is great but you have to consider finding the land & depends on what the city zoning laws are on those. Its just things to consider & keep in mind

  13. I started Dave Ramsey 10 yrs ago.. one of the first changes I made was I was only going to buy for my immediate family and my max was $300 for ALL their gifts. I told my friends that I was working towards a goal to get rid of my debt and that I wanted to tell them in advance I cannot buy gifts for all my friends and their kiddos.. I had to just stick to immediate family till I got rid of my debt. I had one friend that gave me a hard time.. “it’s just once a year” “ well I am getting your son a gift “
I said I understand that and you are free to buy whatever gifts you want for whomever but just know it’s not expected and I am not able to give one in return so just keep that in mind. 🤷‍♀️ what can I say lol

  14. just for jill……local giant eagle reduced their good halloween candy (nestle crunch, hearshys chocolate, m and m's etc) to 25 cents a bag ……bought 100 bags and paid with a gift card….stored in air proof buckets……chocolate never goes bad…….

  15. With all due respect, I feel that was a out of touch response saying you can build tiny house and a shed. You realize you have to get a land (which cost money) and find out what your city zoning laws regarding what they allow and don't allow. If the land don't have septic, electricity, water. You realzie those cost are very expensive more than any person on Supplemental Security Income can afford?

With the cost of doing all those things to the land you can take it in buy manufactured home already on land

  16. Galatians 6:7
"…for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
Although it's not in Scripture, it is true that "Whatsoever a woman seweth, that shall she also rip". (Voice of Experience!)
    God bless you two!
    MARANATHA!

  17. For gifts I like to give stuff I’ve canned. Jelly, jam, pickles, fruit butters. It’s – pretty cheap gift and I make it in big batches anyway.

  18. People who usually collect SSI are because they didn't put that much into the system to qualify for SSDI.
If people had worked hard enough during their younger years, they wouldn't have to be struggling and get such a low Social Security Retirement, or SSDI check. SSI is like a Welfare check, it's only given to people who never worked, or barely worked. It's infuriating when people complain about receiving very little in their SSI check, DUH!! You reap what you sow.

  19. Cannot believe ANYONE believes that inflation is only at 8.6 percent…..when food and gas and electric and heating oil and natural gas is included into inflation it is at around 25-30%. Are we so dumb we believe inflation is really at 8.6%??

  20. Your mom is awesome. Love the way she thinks. I too am a senior citizen of 68. Retired. No pension. Just Social security. My grandchildren get gifts but not my children. They are adults that buy whatever they want. We are almost debt free. Small mortgage left. My husband is 75 and still is self employed to supplement social security. I clean Move-outs of vacant houses for realtors. My Dad recently came to live with us due to inflation. We are all ok and happy. No car notes. No credit cards. Preppers. We are a team. I love your videos.

  21. Buy a Toyota Camry used. ALL my Camry's and families Camry's have last OVER 300K. We have 14 between us that we've drove them until 300K
