Instead of sucking on the pipe. Fill the pipe with water – fill each end with mud – place each end in the barrels – knock each end of the pipe against the side of the barrels and the water will syphon.

Using the soil from the Polytunnel (that had the vine wevil in) on your beds outside, is there a chance you could be spreading the problem via the eggs?

I held my breath while you siphoned the water, Terry! I don’t mind sticking my bare hands into worm bins, but I’m not sure I would want a mouthful of water from a barrel! So glad it all worked out for you.

The simple things work best and the rain barrels are a cheap effective system, do you have filters on the pipes to stop leaves blocking the pipes?
