Container Gardening Pansies and Hellebore to Liven Your Winter Garden

Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy flowers in your garden. In this week’s Wednesday Walkabout, I’m planting pansies, wild fern and hellebore in front porch urn…for this fall season, through winter and into spring. #planting #pansies #wintergarden #gardening

  1. Hi Linda! I was one of the people saying to go for the hellebores, mostly because I envy how well they grow for you so I just think you should use them whenever possible! 😂

  2. I love the hellebores with the pansies. Can hellebores thrive permanently in a pot or do they eventually have to be planted in the landscape?

  3. Here in Zone 5b Nebraska I plant pansies most years in the fall in containers, they behave wonderfully and continue blooming through December and then it’s a dice roll whether they survive January and February. For other northerners, my advice is large planters (or plant in-ground), lots of mulch (leaves work well and are free), keep them out of the wind, and don’t expect them to be blooming in January.

  4. Love, love, love! So cool to be invited to join in virtually, to see a climate and environment different from home, and to learn so very much from Linda! Reading that others in zone 5 plant pansies in the fall is inspiring, and will be a happy "to do," next fall!

  5. Looks so nice! I was so disappointed this year when I couldn't find the violas I always plant. I have some coming up though from seeds that scattered on the bed so I'll dig them up and plant them in some of my containers. Stay warm! COLD here in Fayetteville, WV zone 6b
