English Garden Landscape Design: My Backyard Makeover DIY

I’ve been wanting to do an English Garden landscape design in the backyard since I ran out of room for flowers in the front flower beds, but landscaping materials are EXPENSIVE! See how I was able to do my backyard makeover DIY on the cheap by sourcing rocks and plants for free! No HGTV crews to help out but I think I did pretty well on my own! I installed a new kind of edging (lawnshark pound-in) to keep the mulch in and weeds out so the upkeep will be easier, too!

Bulbs/1 mature iris clump
8 bags mulch

Free supplies: divided perennials
landscaping rocks from my friend

Supplies I’d already had:
Landscaping fabric— BUT CARDBOARD WOULD BE MY GO-TO next time! Cheaper and better for the environment!!

Plants
4 Leftover bags of dirt from garden project

  1. Wooohooo.. that is alot more work than i thought😅😅 Well done Amy, love the transformation and the lamp idea is brilliant!!

  2. Beautiful transformation! Makes me jealous and makes me want to do something with my yard sooner than later!

  3. Hey All! I wanted to note that in retrospect, I would have chosen CARDBOARD for weed barrier–cheaper, and better for the environment! Here's a great explanation by another gardener who talks about what you're blocking BESIDES weeds from emerging at the top of your beds…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhVcQ-uup-0

I was wanting to not use weed killer, so thought landscaping fabric was a good solution…but not really a fan of plastic-y stuff in the ground. :/ I hope you've been outside enjoying your yards, or parks nearby!

  4. Your voice is very low and the music is so loud that it is hard to hear what you are saying. Your garden turned out beautifully, nice job. Thank you for the post.
