Building the boxes for the Sabal Palmetto! Having the bottom of the trunk in case in foam or dry leaves is fantastic. The open crown top though should be open to sunlight when you build the box. It should be with at least 3 / 6 mm plastic with a heat Source inside so it does not succumb to cold temperatures below 20F. This will keep the crown from rotting and getting bacteria. Sabal palms do not like dark coverings like other palms.
