Japanese Maple Bonsai, “Mikawa Yatsubusa”- Prepare For Winter

This is one of my husband’s bonsai collection.
Helping the leaves “drop”. They are ready but waiting for the next rain. The task of picking up the fine leaves after rain from the concrete ground would be more difficult than pulling them off.
After last year unusual cold winter, I am placing small bonsai plants under patio or below eaves this winter. Also, this pot has an attached bottom tray. This mean water collected will freeze in the winter, bad for the pot and the plant.
Do need to keep the soil slightly moist over winter.
