Most of the Dollar Generals and Family Dollars near me are so packed you cannot walk down the aisles. I am in the Charleston, SC metro area.
I don't shop the $ stores. However I'm afraid once they have to pay out millions upon millions they will just close more stores and that will result in more food deserts for some areas as well as layoffs.

Missouri's Many DGs and Family $$ are the same way. I do have to say my local DG is fairly well taken care of for the # of emplyees that are in there. I do not buy refrigerated foods
To me: This sounds like an “ on purpose “ tactic to close down and therefore to eliminate a source of budget grocery shop options for low income shoppers. Part of the larger plan- like fires in food production facilities, bird flu culling, etc. Here comes another hit to low income shoppers.
I know in retail at least its always been profits over people. I have seen all emergency exits blocked for years and no one cares, not even OSHA. They said they cant do anything about it when someone called. Locked exit doors during business hours and escape hazards. We were shown a video about what to do in the event of a shooter so after I watch the video I went to check all the emergency exits and every one of them was blocked by loads of merchandise. The company I worked for had bully managers who would intimidate the employees to feel like they had to work off the clock or they would get fired if their work wasn't done in the amount of time they expected it to be done. But they would also fire you if they found out you were working off the clock. I believed they would rather break the law and get away with as much as they can because their profiting billions and if they get sued they only lose millions. 🤷♀️

I am in Ohio and my Dollar Tree is clean, neat and well stocked. Several employees working and ringing people out. However, our Dollar General is just a hot mess. Junk everywhere, and in some places you can't get your cart past the stuff sitting in the aisle.

I've always taught my daughter to never take crap from any job who treats anyone like this. I always tell her to know her worth and stand up for that. Many jobs like that know they can take advantage of younger people and know they won't argue back or fight for the hours they worked for and get paid for those exact hours. This is disgusting.

I once worked for a mom and pop owned event company that refused to pay one minute before 8am or after 5p. If I'm on your property at 5 am working, I'm clocked in and if I work til 10 pm, I'm still clocked in. If you don't pay me that's for the courts to decide but it's protecting my butt if I get hurt. Needless to say, the Dept of Labor soon got involved and I got paid for every minute on the clock I was entitled, thousands of dollars worth, they got fined tens of thousands. Everyone else were sheep and clocked in at 8 although they were working for free for hours before and would clock out at 5 and work for free for hours afterwards, all to keep their jobs for fear of being fired…. Yeah, they got rid of me soon there after, lol…
I bet you DOLLARS to DONUTS many of your subscribers will hit DOLLAR GENERAL and DOLLAR TREE to get those sales—–what you are describing is unfortunately VERY common in retail.I worked for wallyworld for 3 years overnight as a stocker and if was common practice to clock out for your lunch hour and get right back out on the floor to keep stocking and miss your lunch hour.The store I worked at team leads and managers turned a blind eye alot. The employees put up with it becasue jobs were not plentiful in our area and we had bills to pay and mouths to feed.
The DG I go to seems to never have enough staff because I'll go there and sometimes there's a note on the door that says "went to the bank, be right back" so to me that sounds like there is only 1 person working on those days which would make it easy for the place to be robbed which in turns puts employees at danger. When it comes to products, why is there being so much ordered, when they know damn well there isn't any room for it. So then it falls back on the reason why they throw so much that can be donated, not saying food, but the clothes I've found and nic nacks and books and school supplies and cleaning products from house to body cleaning products, make up. I sat one day in the parking lot of a DG and watched a women fill boxes and boxes with stuff that she ended up filling up an entire bed of her truck. I will never understand how DG works but I have a huge problem with them when it comes to throwing out very nice stuff to donate to people that are in need. The world has gone to shit and people are becoming beyond poor and places like DG could give them hope. But nope they throw it away and then try to destroy it with bleach and spray paint or break it! I WISH MORE THAN ANYTHING I COULD TALK TO THEM AND LET ME HAVE THE STUFF THEY WANT TO THROW AWAY AND ILL MAKE SURE IT GETS TO THE PEOPLE IN NEED.

That's illegal!! If he's clocked out, he goes home. If he's working, he stays clocked in. My first job was like that. I had to clock out at 11:30, but keep working till I was done. I told her, when I clock out, I'm leaving. The boss was ripping me off. She got mad at me, but said ok, stay clocked in & hurry up. I guess I started out at 16 standing for my rights. I had two jobs that tried that shiat with me. Didn't work! This kid needs to refuse. Legally they can't make him work clocked out.
Simple fix call the fire Marshall they will shut them down until cleaned up!!!
I'm in Indiana and I totally agree with you. I'm not shopping at DG any longer. We have a DT here – it is neat and well kept.I was done when I couldn't take the mess anymore. I even had to move rotainers if I wanted to get the product off the shelf behind it. The prices go up up every time and not the price on the shelf .

I’m in Indiana also and I think I sent you one of the articles about Indiana and it is a hot mess at ours. We live in a tiny little town and you can’t even get down the isles. They even have a shipping box outside to store extra stuff. But it’s still a mess.
I think this is National. The exception is the very occasional well managed store. Treatment of thier employees is and has been for some time a disgrace.

In Ohio the Attorney State General is sueing DG for wrong prices on the shelf. I have found several items that were higher at the register.
Autumn, IF what this video you shared at the beginning, about what this male person said is true, then Dollar General is violating the Law by having a person work off the clock, or adjusting a person's work time, or denying that person to leave once clocked out.

I worked for Dollar General for 4 weeks ( andover, CT ) … stated my pay would be at $16 / hour … I only received $14.25 / hour
I worked 55 hours a week … but store policy states that a "full time employee gets 40 hours MINUS lunch breaks " .. so I would only get paid for 37 1/2 hours when I worked 55 hours per week … did not notice pay was short until 2 weeks – asked them to correct it – thay stated they would – but never did. .. so I quit on the spot & walked out .
D on't worry about the FRONT DOOR & the receiving door lock not working. … MIME like you are locking them, but leave them unlocked & just set the alarm system. !? … ( I am not about to argue / fight my store manager ) – so for 4 weeks – the only thing from stopping theft – was the honesty of the neighbors.

Just a heads up, if you have a Popshelf store in your area, its also owned by Dollar General. They are a glorified Dollar General store. If you dont want to support DG, steer clear of Popshelf also.
