  1. He's already signed it at least 2 hours ago it was on the news but however it just says that they have to go to work doesn't say that they have to work if I were them I would go and conveniently forget on how to operate the equipment what is the switch for what does this do how do I make the train start kind of like the blue flu of the police department they're showing up as per what the bill says but that doesn't mean that you have to work they can't force you to work the reason they're not giving them sick leave is they didn't negotiate for it he's not obligated to give them any sick leave unless they negotiate for it they take a lower pay rate one year and they get the paid sick leave next year they go back up and they still get the sick leave it's a negotiation as a negotiator I know this because I have done this many many times

  2. All part of the plan…get people fearful then kick the can down the road,… get people fearful again then kick the can down the road… what next do those evil politicians have planned for the people that they are working for?… I pray God's judgement on them! Thanks, Autumn!

  3. It's crazy I support the rail workers, if they happen to walk off of go to work and not work. They have been over worked and abused. No way anyone gonna make me work if I can't go to my mom's funeral or get sick w/o pay. There just as imp as our truckers. This is so crazy

  4. Its not just paid leave. Getting paid for time off was never the problem. Workers are used to taking sick days or any time off 24/7 on call without any pay. They used to he allowed 25% of the time to be unavailable voluntarily without repercussions for things like just going to the grocery store or spending a day with family, going to a doctor, driving your kid home from getting wisdom teeth pulled, i mean basic life things. They removed that from all railroads in the last couple years making them required to be on call 24/7/365 and any amount of time off for any reason is punished by points which quickly and have resulted in people getting fired even for taking time off to rest or sleep.

Its not economic harm thats the issue to individual employees. Its the lifestyle of fear and insurmountable despair and anxiety hoping nothing happens that they might have to use points and lose their job and end up unemployed.

As an example a man in our terminal, his mom in law died. He was given 3 days off bereavement. He normally would have at least some days to be relieved of on call status before last year could use those days for the month as needed to attend to life. His wife was mentally distraught and inconsolable. She needed help with the kids. Railroad denied any time off and he was given points for the time he had to take off to care for her, and he was subsequently fired. Thing is, the job once called isnt something you come home from at the end of the day. You’re gone 40 hours+ at a time come home for 10, then on call and typically back to work within 12 over and over.

Another railroad family had this to say:

“My husband had 33 points. He laid off sick Thanksgiving morning he had 102 fever and was throwing up. He lost 7 points . He woke up Friday still running a fever and throwing up. He checked the board at 8 am and was due out at 3 am Saturday. He was called at 10 am for an on duty call. They paper deadheaded and called a train that wasn't even on his lineup from another board. He accepted the call, when he got up he was so dizzy there was no way he could make it to work. He called the agent back and was laid off on call. He was charged with 20 points!
Since my husband was sick on a holiday he went from 33 points to 6, he lost 27 pts in two days. It's so sad and irritating, it could happen to anyone.”

Once you get to 0 you are suspended for 10 days without pay. Next time its 20 days. Third time you’re fired. And to earn back points you need to he on call 336 consecutive hours (14 days) to earn 4 points back.

Railroad employees no longer get the unpaid days they need to take care of even basic tasks like going to the bank during business hours etc. the time between trips may only be between 5pm till 5 am the next morning. And thats the only time they’re “in town” for 4+ days. It wreaks absolute havok on lives of families. And on top of that, there is little to no warning of when they will be called to work and no known timeframe of when they will be back home.

That 25%, 40 hours a week, was critical to railroad families lives and they were used to going without daddy a lot, and crammed as much as they could in that few hours a week. Often with the rail employee giving up sleep to make time. They took that 40 hours away and gave them punitive points.

They took 74 unpaid days a year away. most americans get 2 days off a week= 104 days per year plus scheduled afternoons and prescheduled sleep time, for most humans thats between 9pm and 6am. Not railroaders. (Most dont even know what day it is if you ask.)

You can get fired for just a hand ful of family obligations that dont line up with railroads minute to minute changing train lineups that resemble a houdini magic trick at times. Trains materializing and called without warning. Lay down to sleep for something that might get called at 9am, but instead called at 11pm to go to work on no sleep. This happens multiple times each week.

Railroad workers are exhausted. And all congress cares is that them having time to be a human will somehow inconvenience others and cost us $2B a day?

  5. I heard they got it then today I heard they didnt get the sick time on a Fox news radio commercial. Ok so still the worker can walk away and quit. What's stopping the worker from quitting that's what i want to know.

  6. Rail flu is right. This is what they do in China force them to work. Like I say rail flu. They can't force them to work. They can fire them but then who will work. They are slave labor. Gov. Needs to stay out of it. Thanks Autumn

  7. Haven't found the current figure yet, but in 2014, about 8% of crude oil and fuel were shipped by rail. Plus a lot of coal is shipped. And DEF for diesel trucks.

  8. Government should’ve never interfered in this. That means from now on the government it will interfere in other matters because they’re allowed to now

  9. Ok, I'm confused. Why are the Fed's involved? Is the railroad run by the Fed's? How are the Unions using the Feds? This is an old, very old union. Time to bust it up. Most companies have gone to PTO and PPTO. This worked extremely well for us at my job. The longer you were there the faster it accumulated. I wound up getting almost 6 weeks of vacation at 15yrs and plenty of protected time up to 40hrs for sick or taking care of family needs. If sickness looks longer than 3 days take a med leave and longer than 7 grab your short term disability to help out or use PTO for covering your missed days . How come the Unions can't pound out a deal like that? Yeah, I'm anti-union cause I've seen them bankrupt businesses and ruin lives and have pockets overflowing with dues.

  10. This is gonna happen no matter what imo. Even if the potato tells them they can't strike they will throw a wrench in the machine. Ever hear of the blue flu? I think we'll have workers calling in "Rail frail", or insert catchy name here lol.

  11. They want these good railroaders to work longer hours, less time off some only get one day a year. Its not the money its the family time off, sick time off. The government gets plenty of time off
