Edible Gardening

It's hard to leave our permaculture food forest

We love calm days in the countryside. Nature is slowly getting ready to go to sleep which we can observe in our garden. We still have some things to do before the season is over though. We still have produce to harvest, and Peter is always excited to try something new in the kitchen πŸ˜‰

  1. In the UK we call the inedible nuts from the horse chestnut tree "conkers" and children make a hole through the centre of them with a metal spike and hang them on the end of a length of string and then they do battle striking the conkers against conkers held by other children to find who has the strongest conker. The naughty children may bake their conkers for a while in the oven to make them stronger but that is cheating.

I was sorry you did not have any whipped cream on top of your chestnut puree. In France that dessert is known as Mont Blanc and it is delicious.

  2. In the words of Peter last year……."It's after Halloween, the gay Americans have now started to decorate for Christmas". lol Can I send you pictures of my festively decorated living room? Santa can come anytime. lol Do you listen to any of our American Christmas songs? hee hee Luv ya Gentlemen!

  3. Oooohhh. I want to try rhubarb wine. I love rhubarb pie. We have cranberry wine around here and that is good too.

  4. OMG and LOL, you made this the best part of my day. And I have to tease you guys; Peter needs real measuring spoons for Xmas and Tommy needs suspenders.🍏πŸ₯•πŸ…πŸ₯”Hugs

  5. BTW, that music is very enchanting and goes so well with the intro scenes. Your framing and cropping is wonderful; very beautiful!
    Thanx again ,πŸ„πŸŒ±πŸ

  6. I know in American it is a Christmas tradition to have chestnuts over a roasting fire. I have never had any. This mixture sounds yummy with rum, sugar and butter.

  7. It’s really amazing that in a few short years you have cultivated a veritable farmer’s market for yourselves 🀩

  8. Mushrooms are an indication that your soil is very healthy. Leave them. The do not kill trees. I would be careful about touching mushrooms if you do not know them.

  9. In a few days we will have a day that is 80 degrees, we have been having a lot of rain.

  10. I have never heard of a savory pumpkin pie! it looked delicious, and almost looked like a deep dish pizza! PLEASE share the recipe!!!!

That chestnut dish looked amazing! The joy of enjoying home-grown produce, and revisiting special memories. Ive only eaten chestnuts a handful of times. When I studied abroad in Spain we would get warm/roasted chestnuts from street vendors and eat them with an almond while walking around! Sadly, I haven’t seen fresh chestnuts as commonly here in Michigan.

I love seeing the joy on your faces while sharing your harvest /yields!

  11. The way you were describing and making the chestnut purΓ©e and the finished had my mouth watering. I have never had it but now am going to look for some in the store since I don’t have my own chestnut tree. πŸ˜‚ Wonderful video as usual. See you Thursday β™₯️

  12. The autumnal colours at the beginning are just gorgeous. πŸ˜€πŸπŸ‚πŸƒ Did I miss something though as regards there being a mistake? I’ve never had purΓ©ed chestnuts. I have roasted them though, in the oven. Yum.

  13. What you present today could be titled: "The garden and vegetable garden possible": adaptation, creativity and sustainability. In short, from the producer to the consumer.

  14. Your Kitchen Photo πŸ“· In Social Media πŸ“Ί Was Really Very Sweet 🍬🍭 & Cute ❣️. I Loved It πŸ˜… For Sure πŸ‘πŸ‘Œ. Your Smiling 😊😎😸 Faces Always Makes My πŸ’– Day. But It πŸ˜… Seems That Kitchen Is Really A Special Place For You πŸ’–β€ Two 2⃣ & Me πŸ’–. Now You πŸ’–β€ Guys πŸ₯° Would Think How " Me " Is Coming? 15. Peter looks so young after shaving. He could pass for a 17 yr old. That puree looks delicious.

  16. When I was a kid we had an orchard with Apple, Plum and Cherry Trees. We also grew all our Vegetables. The only thing we had to buy was Meat and bread. We had Chickens and Ducks for eggs. Strangely though, I thought we were poor and that only Rich People bought food. I now live in an Apartment and have to buy everything and nothing tastes like I remember !

  17. Chestnut Spread was actually invented by ClΓ©ment Faugier in the 1880s in France. The more sugar you add, the browner it gets. And it also contains vanilla, not rum ! πŸ˜‰

  18. Have you guys thought of a compost heap for your produce that goes bad before you harvest? Very brave to harvest mushrooms for eating. I had heard that some toxic one's look very similar to edible one's. Be careful about that! Chestnut puree looked yummy😊

  19. The chestnuts used for decorations are 'horse chestnuts' in English – they are edible but bitter. Lovely harvest video, hope you enjoy the beginnings of the Christmas season.

  20. Wow, looks so amazing picking the apples! And at the same time hearing all different sounds you hear at the countryside! ❀
