  1. Hi Simon and Will. Howard Castle was meant to impress and it succeeded. The interior is warm, elegant and inviting. The exterior, grounds and gardens don’t disappoint. Thanks for the tour of this beautiful place. I look forward to Whitby next week. Stay well. ❤

  2. Pity about the weather, nevertheless another great video. I wonder how many staff were needed to run the place in its heyday, also imagine how the whole estate would look covered in snow? Looking forward to the trip to Whitby 🐨🦘🐨🦘😷👍👍

  3. Very interesting and visually stunning tour of the estate! I actually loved seeing the garden in the rain but I image it was a bit of a pain to shoot it, so extra thanks for doing so! Really looking forward to the Whitby video, looks to be something extra special!

  4. Thank you Will and Simon for another excellent tour and commentary on Castle Howard.
It brings back memories of my favourite BBC adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's book Brideshead revisited first shown early 1980's

  5. My last name before being put up for adoption! I wonder if we are related!
I would LOVE to visit it! I LOVE those windows! ♥️

  6. I love your tours of ancient & historic homes, castles and beautifully landscaped gardens. This was so enjoyable. I've never been through an ancient castle but did spend two days touring Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California. Beautiful, but no comparison.

  7. Thank you guys for another lovely video! Such a large and stately home! The paintings were really impressive. The lake views were really beautiful! Looking forward to seeing Whitby!!

  8. Enjoying this in Australia at 1am as I couldn’t sleep. Your voice is very calming and the video is excellent, keep up the good work.👏👏👏💗🇦🇺

  9. We visited today. It was amazing, all decorated for Christmas. 🌲
Nice to find out more about it's history.

  10. Another great trip to an icon English stately home. Brideshead Revisited was one of my most favourite TV shows, as much for the use of the wonderful homes – and I can see how even the Howard family history resonates with that story. And you did so well in those awful conditions – not good for your lens & camera! Whitby looks like a better bet for you! Thank you!

  11. What a beautiful family home! Stunning landscapes. Sorry that the rain kept you from the gardens but what you show is over the top. Thanks for your hard work, it's appreciated!

  12. How do they keep this great pile running? I guess the tourist enterprise and the Prince's Trust. Lovely but not the equal of Chatsworth.

  13. Haya. Such an incredible place. Huge amount of history, beautiful grounds 😀Wow, 100 years, I never knew that. Stunning filming as always 😀Thanku 'sew' much for sharing 😀x

  14. Castle Howard is an impressive structure despite the numbers of years it took to complete.
Like any piece of architecture that spans numerous eras, great buildings become something of a hodge-podge of styles. Different owners demand their own ideas of beauty.
    Cohesive design rarely is achieved.
Still, Castle Howard avoids the ugly, and settles on serendipitous.

  15. There's a Time Team episode on the history of Henderskelfe, a medieval village that predates the building of Howard castle. Years after viewing that episode, I traced an ancestor to the village.

  16. Thank you, it’s been a delight revisiting this “enchanted palace” again, albeit in virtual mode from far away Australia. My first visit was 45 years ago, way before the Brideshead phenomenon and I don’t think there was even a gift shop or cafe then, thrilled to see how “loved” it still is.

  17. What a wonderful tour! And what wonderful tour-guides! Your tone and the content is pitched perfectly, to create a really beautiful, relaxing and engaging tour. Thanks so much! And well done for all the hard work these videos must entail! 🙂

  18. Wow It is grand! I spent 9 weeks in UK last summer. But I missed this place. I stayed 3 nights in York but I didn't have a information.
Thank you for the Video. Your other videos of Winchester and Cotswold helped my trip a lot. And thank you for Korean subtitles

  19. What amazing building, And all the spaces surrounding it. The paintings were amazing and the china collection exquisite. Excellent video as usual. Cheers Simon.

  20. 06:50 Me Thinking – which plate will I eat off of today? Yes, castles and mansions are educational, but were products of their times. If you owned this house, what else would you want? Another big house?
