The apple trees in my UK garden are almost ready for pruning so today I’m using cheap and easy methods to clean, sharpen and protect my garden tools.

Nice one Jane, great advice ☺ 🌱 x
Hi Jane, great advice, thank you for reminding me about Bicarbonate of Soda. Have a great week. Nia
Love the use of bicarb Jane, and you could use percarb on the loppers to ease on the time, maybe with some vinegar to really get the oxi-action going. 👍 I hadn't picked up on my note to clean tools yet, though will do now. 👍😊👍
Can't believe that bicarb cleaned that one pair so well Jane!! Informative video! Danny 🌱
Thanks for the reminder Jane 👍
Great job at cleaning the hand shears Jane! You had mentioned not wanting to spread any disease, and you haven't done anything to actually sterilize the blades. You should have a wee spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol and liberally apply that between cleaning and oiling, and then carry it with you, to apply to the blades between plants. This is something that I now do all the time, but I discovered a couple years ago, when fighting fire blight and black knot.
Hi Jane, great idea with the bicarb, thanks for sharing and take care 🙂
Hello Jane, Great video to remind us to clean our small tools. This also applies to all the tools including the large ones. Baking soda is a wonderful cleanser. Another way to remove larger amounts of rust before cleaning with the baking soda is aluminum foil. If you take a small piece of foil and crumble it up and press it to the table to make a flat edge then rub the rusty surface of the tools this will remove a large amount of material.
This same method will work and scissors, hoes, shovels, edging tools ect. A toll is only as good as the sharp edge is.
I am so happy you are suggesting to do these things right away before the holidays or other winter activities will push this to the spring and then you start with "dirty" tools. I believe being organized reduces the effort needed to succeed. Thank you love for another fantastic video be safe take care
Thanks Jane for the reminder about cleaning pruning tools, going to give the old apple tree a trim in the next couple of weeks and remove some of the large branches in Jan to Feb.
just done mine jane
Oh this reminds me I have to get Gerald to sharpen all mine. Hope everyone is doing well and your not overdoing things 🥰. Have a fantastic week 🐝 safe
Bicarbonate of soda is so over looked sometimes and does a great job. Going to get all my tools out no and give them a clean you have reminded me.
Excellent video Jane….had no idea on the bicarb trick. Need to do my tools … 👍🏻
