Planting Inkeberries and Smooth Hydrangea – Gardening in the Woodland and Shade w/ Native Plants

#nativeplants #fallgardening #gardenvlog Today I rearranged some of my native shrubs and planted new ones as well! I am working with inkberries, hydrangeas and black chokeberries. I like to experiment and see how well things grow in my environment. This means I move things around ALOT! That’s ok though, I always end up learning something when I experiment! 😉

  1. I can't wait to see them all in the spring / summer! Thanks for sharing with us. I struggle with my inkberries, too. One of mine died, I'm pretty sure…I'm waiting to double-check in spring. The other one I have is still alive. They aren't super far away from each other, by any means, but are in different beds. I amended with something acidic (I forget what it was…maybe pinebark soil conditioner or something similar) in both planting holes, as I was told to do at the nursery…I just don't know. I notice issues with hollies and rhododendrons here sometimes, in my garden. I'm starting to think I really should get a real soil test done.

  2. Since Wild Hydrangea blooms on new wood, your annual February pruning should keep it looking good for your front landscaping. It will keep a nice mounded shape, too. Mine is in afternoon and evening shade and still blooms profusely.
